This stainless steel gas piston is an ideal replacement for the AK-47, AK-74, and Saiga rifles. By using a stainless steel bushing (included), the length of the threaded shank can be changed to accomodate different models. Does not fit Saiga shotguns.

This fit well in my AK-74 ...

This fit well in my AK-74 C.U.R. 2. I installed this and several other parts to comply with Sec 922(r) when I installed a SSAK-47 slide fire stock. Even with locktite it started to loosen after several hundred rds rapidly fired through it. They need to include a rivet to install like the original. I had rivets, so I drilled and riveted, now its not moving.

Removing the old piston ...

Removing the old piston was easy enough and installing this piston was as easy as threading it on. The bad news is the TAPCO piston is not drilled to receive the piston rivet. So you're left hoping the LocTite will hold, or you have to drill out the TAPCO stainless steel piston you just bought.

The only difficult part ...

The only difficult part of installing this piston was in carefully drilling out the metal indents that held the old piston in place. Once this was done it was a cinch to unscrew the old one and screw in the new. I have fired several hundred rounds with the new piston and it has performed flawlessly. Good product, good price.

I'm not a huge fan of ...

I'm not a huge fan of Tapco, but when they make internals, they make them right. I always install Tapco G2 Triggers in my AKs, and I've installed one of these gas pistons in a Saiga conversion (for 922(r) compliance) and I'm about to install this one in my Arsenal SGL21-61. I would have left my Arsenal gas piston stock, but I recently purchased a Dublin AK System, and it won't work with the Gas Piston that comes from Russia. I trust this piston on my $1,000 Arsenal, and you should, too.
