Product Information

Automatically charges most cases. The die includes the connecting rod and adaptors to actuate the measure with the case. The measure is positively reset for the next charge when the press ram is fully lowered. Also included are drop tubes for most rifle and handgun cartridges from 380 ACP to 300 Winchester Magnum. This die does not expand the case neck. Comes with a plastic storage case. Shellholder sold separately.

I'm sorry to say that Lee really missed the mark on this. This automatic charging unit simply won't work on anything but a progressive press as it comes out of the box -- and even then it does a terrible job. If you add a spring (not included) to pull the activation system back to the start point you can get it to work sort of okay on a single stage press. Worst of all is the fact that it is impossible to get it to work on a turret press.

High volume .223!

Along with a 4-hole turret makeover for my 3-station press, this addition turned me into a high(er)-volume .223 loader. This is exactly what I was looking for. Now, I can charge with the case still in the press, plus seat and crimp in separate stations. Throw in the adjustable Lee Auto-Disk Powder Bar, and you can throw a max charge of H335 into about 3 rounds a minute! Good stuff.

This die is ok. It will do about 50 rounds, then my advice is to tear it apart and clean it thoroughly. If you don't clean it every 50 rounds the nozzle clogs and your charges will be light. Make sure if you are using this die you check every 10 or less rounds for charge. Course that goes without saying. Works good if you keep it clean. Personally though Im going to stop using it. Too much hassle having to tear it apart and clean it all the time.

The Charging die does what it is supposed to, help you reload on a press. It comes with a pull chain that you can uses for presses with a hole in middle or single stage presses. I have a turret so I couldn't use it but it still saves a good amount of time when using a powder measure. A very simple product that just works like it should. It is a very good companion to the powder measure.

Was told that it would work fine on a turret press so I attached the lever and chain as instructed. The lever was tugging at the mount and bending everything. I loosened the screw on the lever and then it would leak powder. So I removed the lever and chain, a loosing issue there, and operated it by hand. Other problem, it was hitting the lever prime. I used a powder riser extension to lift it up and attached a rubber band to the lever collar on the die to the mount on the hopper to at least have a return action. I also found that if you remove the lever collar and attachment, the Pro Auto Disk unit will mount right onto the top of it and work very well if it can load enough powder that you need. I guess I have to get the double disk set up and try that. I need 45 grains for my Garand and 43 for my Mauser. So my opinion is that it does not work as instructed, you need to make something else out of it to work.

I bought this to enable my Perfect Powder measure to be used on a press as well as for precision handloading. Given the die is well made, the usual very high quality of all the Lee dies, After a hundred loads or so the adapter kit ceased to function. The PPM, with the adapter parts removed continues to work perfectly. The drop tube from the UCD adapter kit is the only part I kept. I have no idea if this kit works on a Lee progressive press, but it doesn't work on my Challenger, or anyway, I can't make it work consistently, therefore the one star review. BTW, if you have a PPM, the drop tube alone is available from Lee, (part # AO 1705) and is worth the $2.00.

I can not get the linkage to work to load .223 on a pro 1000. It still lets you get the measure on the press and then manually charge the case which does save some time.
