I have used it in the forest with my 375H&H Mag. It works, My daughter has no problem controling the same rifle in the forest and at the range.
Worked very well with my 30-06 as well.
On a long hike it might get a little heavy but it stablizes the rifle very well so even when huffing and puffing you've got a chance to hit your mark.

The fieldpod is a great idea. I have used fieldpods designed for law enforcement and cost several times as much. When using this unit I found that the upper rifle support is well designed, However, the tripod support does not provide the stability needed for accurate shooting. If the top could be easily removed and installed on a heavy duty tripod it would work well. I would recommend the upper support if sold as a unit that could be installed on the owners tripod.

Halfway to a Great Idea

The Deadshot Fieldpod is a great idea and a great improvement over shooting sticks. The only problem with the Deadshot is it does not have enough telescoping leg length to make it practical to use from any position other than sitting on the ground. If you hunt from a chair of any kind you will need a table of some sort to bring the height up to comfortably grip rifle or xbow in order to shoot. Placing the unit on a table makes it very unstable and not what I had expected with the price I paid for it.

It arrived with a broken plastic part. Called Caldwell and they sent me out the replacement parts. Great customer service. I use it for target shooting. Seems to work well and is quite adjustable for on table use or on ground use. A little light, so I am a bit concerned that it will fall over if I leave the rifle in it. Much better than trying to hold a bull barrel target rifle.

There is a lot to say about this rest. First I like it works well when fully deployed holds rifles well in shooting position very adjustable. When deploying some sticking and binding occurs with plastic on aluminum. May loosen with use. The strap that cones with unit to carry it is poor I have found another way to carry it. Over all very well worth the money I would recommend if you're looking for this style rest. Would have given 5 stars if there was no binding or sticking. Do not let this deter your purchase it is not that much of an issue.
