The Forster Ultra Micrometer Seater Die includes all the popular features of the Bench Rest Seater Die, plus an ultra-accurate micrometer adjustment feature for adjusting bullet seating depth. Seating depth may be adjusted in .001" or even .0005" increments. The white hash marks on the dial are great for dialing in the desired seating depth and non-crimping bullet seating die allows the bullet and case to be held in perfect alignment during seating. It is recommended that neck sizers be used only for Bolt Action or single shot rifles. Cartridges for autoloaders, lever action and pump rifles should be full length sized. Shellholder sold separately.

Notes:

The Ultra Seating die allows you to adjust the seating depth to .001" or even .0005" increments. After the bullet has been seated close to the desired depth take a measurement. Adjust the micrometer stem down to the desired depth and the cartridge will be exactly the desired length needed.

If using Forster Dies in a Forster Co-Ax press shellholders are not required since Forster presses do not require a shellholder.

If using Forster Dies in any non-Forster press use shellholders that are recommended by the press manufacturer of the press being used.

Elevated expander button allows better alignment of case and neck.

Non-crimping seating die allows the bullet and case to be held in perfect alignment during seating.

Ditto on the comment that the markings are very hard to read. Run out is pretty nice, but the one I have is going to end up on eBay, as I just can't read the markings with any ease at all. This leaves me pretty much setting up the die by caliper measurement. Not great.

This die is the solution for seating the VLD profile bullets. Standard dies, even Competition dies from other manufacturers tend to mark the bullet at the ring of contact, and can even deform the bullet in the case of compression loads or tight neck tension. I did some research before purchasing this die, including contacting several manufacturers, and found that other manufacturers make you order a special stem for the VLDs. The Forster design accommodates all bullets by contacting the bullet nearer the end of the ogive. So the contact area is much greater, better distributing the pressure, and the jacket tends to be thicker in this area. The end result is no donut, no deformation, and excellent consistency. Using Berger bullets, I have noticed almost no difference in seating depth - I can't give a measurement, because it's not discernible on the calipers. This die also works great on polymer tipped bullets like the Hornady A-Max, which can be deformed by seaters that contact the bullet too close to the tip.

This die had been recommended by several friends so I got one. The theory of restraining both the case and the bullet concentrically prior to inserting the bullet makes sense.The bullet plug is deeply recessed and contacts the bullet well down on the ogive of each bullet I tested. This results in extremely repeatable length as measured in a collator. The plug initially marked the bullets but a little polishing with lapping compound fixed this.A comparison of bullet run-out was made between this die and my old Lee Dead-Length Seater. The Forster did slightly better with an average run-out of 0.0016" vs. the Lee at 0.0019". Maximum run-out was also a bit better with the Forster at 0.0029" vs. 0.0036" for the Lee.There are still some variables that the Forster cannot overcome. Competition rounds must still be checked for run-out.

I must admit I am a Redding fan. I heard good things about the Forster and figured I would give the .223 rem Forster Ultra Seater a try. I could not be happier about that decision. When checking the run out of my .223's, 98% of my rounds were between .000"-.003", the other 2% were still no greater than .004". Just as straight as any of my Redding competition seaters (.204, 22-250, 6mm, or 7mm Mag).You can actually set the die for your particular zero, it just takes a little longer than the Redding. Many complaints about the micrometer graduations on the die but I found them easy enough to read. If you're looking for a quality seating die, this is a really good choice.

Product works well when ...

Product works well when properly set up. Produces consistent OALs when cartridges are checked with a comparator and low run out. The problems I have with it are the micrometer scale is faint and extremely difficult to read and the cup of the seating stem is very thin and will split if the die is not set up properly. The latter is mostly due to operator error as the die is designed to support the end of the seating stem. Just something to be aware of.
