The Lyman Magnum Impact Bullet Puller is designed to safely disassemble a loaded round in seconds with out damage to the bullet or brass case. Just smack the head on a hard surface until the bullet comes apart from the brass. The head design has been newly engineered to allow the puller to be used on a full range of calibers from the small 5.7x28mm FN to the largest magnum case. The "full size" ergonomic molded handle with rubber insert will provide a comfortable secure grip so the tool wont slip while being used.

I bought the Lyman puller because it looked more durable than the other brands. After three months of use it has held up well and I've really abused it. Be sure to use a scrap piece of 2x4 to pound it against, otherwise you'll do damage to your table top with anything more than a gentle tap. Have used it to pull .38-40, .44-40 and .308. The 38-40 & 44-40 cast lead bullets come out very easy. 150 gr. .308 bullets also come out pretty easy, however, with heavier rifle bullets that are seated deeper you're going to have trouble getting them out. You'll also have trouble pulling any bullets that are lacquered and sealed against moisture, so you'll have to use a collet type puller for those. So, keep in mind that while this is a great puller that it does have its limitations and its not going to be the only bullet puller you'll have to buy for your reloading bench. After trying for about ten minutes to pull a Hornady .308 cal. 168 gr. BTHP moly bullet that I had inadvertently seated way too deep, I was surprised and pleased that the Lyman puller didn't crack or break because I really whacked the heck out of it. Also, for those stubborn bullets that won't come out after a few whacks you'll have to keep an eye on the screw top that holds the collet and cartridge case because it will start to come unscrewed. Just tighten it back down and hammer away. Am giving it a 4 only because it does have its limitations due to heavier, deeply seated bullets and bullets that are sealed. If rating on durability alone, I'd definitely give it a 5.

However, after only pulling about 50 bullets, the cheap plastic feeling aluminum collets get all bent out of shape. I would be surprised if the collet lives on for another 50 pulls. Lyman should include extras, Im sure they are aware of this problem.

I really had my doubts about this, with durability, safety, and ease of use. But what they say IS true. This thing is tough. Best thing is a concrete floor, wooden benches etc absorb the impact too much. I square up with the basement floor, a couple good hits and the bullet comes free. After time and time again, there isn't a single crack in mine, and I've put some good force behind it. The only thing to watch is the cap, in my experience after every 2nd or 3rd hit it tends to come loose. I just hit twice, tighten the cap, and repeat. Definitely something you want to have around.

Does what It's supposed to do. Very well made, almost industructable when used properly. I use a maple block as an anvil. Don't strike this tool on concrete floor or metal plate and it will give good long service.

Very Disappointed

This item uses a collet device that consists of three pieces of medal held together by a rubber o-ring. When trying to remove a .40 cal bullet from a case this collet came apart in the three pieces. After some fiddling, I did manage to reassemble everything only to have it happen on 3 of the next 6 attempts at removing bullets.
Technically the tool did not break, it did work, but the frustration of reassembling the collet so frequently that I gave up using it and will look for something a little more substantial.

This is the only inertia bullet puller I could find that works with WSM rounds, used it and it worked like a charm, also used it on 7mm-08 rounds and 30-06 rounds and it worked fine, no complaints.

They need to state how hard you must smack this on concrete, or a solid chunk of wood. You got to hit it hard enough to make you think its going to break. Pulls everything and works perfect.
