Howard Leight Impact Sport Electronic Earmuffs provide protection from damaging noises over 82 dB, while amplifying regular ambient sounds such as conversation, range commands, etc. Features include a ventilated inner headband to minimize pressure on the head, durable outer headband to withstand abuse, snap-in ear cushions, directional stereo microphones, Quick-Click headband height adjustment and an NRR of 22 dB. This unit also comes equipped with an audio input jack and cord for your MP3 player and other audio devices for listening off the field. Use the integrated power and volume knob to control the volume, and the external audio plug for your favorite media player. These electronic muffs fold up easily for compact convenient storage.

I am going to have to ...

I am going to have to agree with those questioning the protection level. At the local skeet range I did not feel comfortable at all with the electronics turned ON. The amplification is good, maybe too good - it will drive you batty if there is a fan or something running in the background. I didn't notice any difference at all when adjusting the volume control either. It seemed to be either full ON or OFF.

Great Value and wonderful earmuffs. Provide a great cheek weld with rifles and shotguns due to low profile which the peltors lack. Electronics seem sturdy and the auto shut off is a must. Positive, tactile buttons and great ergonomics. Would recommend to anyone, and the price is fabulous!.

These muffs are very poorly designed. The wires emerging from the earcups collide with the headband which pries the bottom of the muff away from the head. With a 1/8 inch gap between the bottom of the muff and your head there is no noise protection. I rated this item one star because no stars is not available.

As a range officer I am around gun shots all day. These are amazing, they allow me to hear voices at a normal volume but not the punishing BOOM of shotguns and rifles, pistols are also not amplified by the mics. I recommend them to all my shooters, they are nice, lite and very effective

Bought these as the info and positive reviews seemed to out way the negative ones of these not sealing well around the ears. BIG MISTAKE and since they are in a blister pack that has to be cut open I could not return them. Save your money for a good pair that fit and have a good seal, try the (Peltor TacSport Electronic Earmuffs (NRR 20dB) Black) these are twice the price but worth every penny. The Howard Leight Impact Sport Electronic Earmuffs are useless but if they would offer thicker ear seals like the peltors they would be great.Bottom line is they do not work at blocking centerfire handguns or rifles report without also using ear plugs which is too bad as the amplified sound is great. The Peltor TacSport Electronic Earmuffs (NRR 20dB) Black are the answer and worth saving up for. I am selling my Howard Leight to the first offer of $20.00.

This is a great product! I have been unsatisfied with electronic muffs I have tried in the past, but recently bought these and just used them for an afternoon of trap shooting. Pluses: good amplification of range commands and conversation; good suppression of gunfire without annoying click on and off; no white noise! Most of all, very comfortable - I wore them for three hours in 90 degree heat without discomfort. Minuses: NONE. These muffs perform at a level far above their price point.

The point no one makes is that it will still pick up normal sounds around you while it is playing your ipod or smartphone.... Don't need to run around with one ear not covered, or off, for safety while working. Couldn't find that info anywhere....

Very disappointed. These ...

Very disappointed. These hearing protectors do not seal even with out glasses so I need to wear plugs and then the muffs to use when instructing, that way the plugs kill the noise and the muffs amplify voices. I would like to return them but they come in a blister pack so they can't be returned after opening. Best advise is save up and spend more for a set that will do what they advertise.

Worthless. When I adjust ...

Worthless. When I adjust them to fit my head the top of the ear cup interferes with the bottom of the headband causing the ear cups to flare out at the bottom leaving a 1/4 inch gap between the cushions and my head. When I adjust them so the ear cups clear the headband there is a 1/2 inch gap between the top of the headband and my head.

All in all, a pretty good design. The foam pads covering the microphones are nicely recessed, and do not appear to just be glued on as an afterthought as found on other designs. It should be noted, however, that because the lower edge is a bit more squared-off than other more rounded versions, these muffs may not provide a consistent seal along the lower edge as you move around ... But this really depends on your facial geometry.

These earmuffs are perfect for 95% of the shooting I do. They have a slim profile, auto power-off and the batteries seem to last forever. They are as comfortable as any other ear muffs I own. They amplify regular sounds very well. The only reason I gave these 4 stars is that I would prefer they offer a little more sound reduction. I shot a .50 BMG recently and these did not offer enough protection for that weapon - double up on hearing protection if shooting any very large caliber rifles.
