Product Information

These revolutionary bullets from Barnes are made of 100% copper and contain no lead. When the bullet expands, four razor-sharp cutting petals are created, allowing the bullet to penetrate farther through tough bone and tissue. These bullets usually retain 100% of their original weight, making them a superb choice for hunting. Barnes recommends initially seating bullets 0.050" off the lands. Best accuracy will be found from 0.030" to 0.070" depending on the rifle. This is not loaded ammunition.

1 in 12 TWIST (or ...

1 in 12 TWIST (or faster)! Love the Barnes TSX line. Shoot it in my 8mm Mauser and 257 Wby. However ... these specific bullets are useless in a 1 in 14 twist 22-250. 7 MOA. Tried different powders, some of which I loaded heavy. At no velocity would this bullet stabilize in a 1 in 14 twist barrel. It said 1 in 12 or faster on the box, but I couldn't resist trying. Now I know. I guess if you were in the same room with a feral hog it would be OK, but not out in the field.

First year ever using centerfire 22 caliber for deer hunting and was hesitant. Rifle is beautiful Model 70 in 225 Winchester. Worked a load up with these bullets at about 3600 fps. Large body 8 point at 100 yards dropped like a stone with a heart shot ! No spine or shoulder was hit. Just the shock alone was impressive and it left a golf ball size exit out his brisket. Great choice for hot 22 cals and deer.

Makes a viable deer round ...

Makes a viable deer round loaded in the .223 Remington. I killed a good sized blacktail with one this year and was impressed by it's performance and penetration. A quartering shot under the last rib on the left side almost made it out of the right front leg at about 125 yards.

Flat base makes loading a bit tedious, and this TSX was not as accurate as other Barnes .224 bullets in my 1:9 twist .223 Rem. I have no doubts that it would do it's job, but there are better Barnes choices.

Have been looking for a bullet that stays together when shooting pigs, goats and sheep and stays where they're hit. (lava rocks are hard to track wounded animals) Tried all the factory ammo, they all blow up and penetrate halfway through and damage a lot of meat when shot in the shoulder. So if the animal is close (100yds or under) I head shot them. With the TSX shot xx no. of animals and at all angles, didn't loose any and meat damage is very little. They also shoot 5shot 1 hole groups at 100yds. Best bullet I've tried.

I neck-shot a 170# whitetail buck with my Mini 14 Tactical at 100 yards. The bullet passed through, completely demolishing a vertebrae on the way. There was absolutely no bullet fragmentation. This is one tough little bullet that gives excellent performance and accuracy!

I wanted to use these for deer in my Vanguard 22-250, and testing proved they will group under 3/4 of an inch. But when trying to test for expansion and penetration, I was initially foiled because they held together and penetrated all my layers of test media. Finally I recovered one that passed through 1/8 inch of heavy leather, a 4 inch jug of wet sand, two 3/4inch hardwood boards, finally lodging in a 2X8. The recovered bullet weighed 51.3 grains and was .40" across. I won't hesitate to shoulder shoot a deer with these.

Accurate and deadly! I shot a small buck with this during the 2005-2006 Florida deer season and the results far exceeded my expectations. The deer was facing me at 50 yards with it's head down feeding on acorn. I placed the shot through the back of the neck at the base of the shoulder blades. It smashed the spine, traveled through the chest cavity, took out the lungs and top of the heart and exited the bottom of the chest behind the right front leg taking out a rib in the process and leaving a quarter sized exit wound. Simply amazing penetration from a 53 grain bullet traveling that fast and through that much muscle and bone. Needless to say, the deer was dead before it hit the ground. I now have confidence that this bullet and load combo can "git'r dun" when the times comes.
