The comfortable leather cover conforms to the body while the energy-absorbing foam insert dramatically reduces felt recoil.

Have had one of these shields for a couple years now and have found it very helpful in learning to shoot and work up hunting loads for my 30-06. I can shoot a box or two of ammo and not notice it at all at the end of the day.

I went on a dove and duck ...

I went on a dove and duck hunt in Argentina earlier this year and brought the Past Field Shield along almost as an afterthought. It was my first time going and I was only shooting a 20 gauge so I did not think I would need it. After 1000 rounds within the first 2 hours and no recoil shield on, I realized there would be no way for me to keep shooting without some kind of protection. I got the shield out of my shooting bag and WOW does this thing really work. I shot 7000 rounds at doves in 3 days and 400 rounds at ducks in another 3 days. After putting the shield on it never left my shoulder again and my shoulder never got sore again like it started to after the first 2 hours of the hunt without it. This product is thin enough that it does not get in the way, but thick enough that it absorbs a good amount of the recoil. On a scale of 1 to 5 this product is a 10!

My brother called me a sissy, and my bro-in-law said worse, but I had the last laugh when they were sore after 300 rounds of trap shooting. Absolutely takes the flinch out of .35 Whelen when target shooting. Quality construction. I wish it had a slightly longer chest strap for those of us raised when meat was cheap.

I bought one of these years ago on the advice of my gunsmith, who warned me of damage to the rotator cuff as a result of repeated recoil. This is really helpful with 12 gauge shotgunning and shooting 30 caliber rifles at the bench. In addition to leaving my shoulder fit for work after a day at the range, it is unobtrusive and does not interfere with the fit of my shotgun (you tend not to notice these things as much shooting a rifle from a bench but swinging a shotgun you sure do.) You'd be surprised at how much you DON'T flinch with decent recoil protection.If I were to shoot heavy magnum rifles I would probably go to one of their thicker pads but this one is perfect for 50 to 100 rounds of .30-06, 8mm Mauser or 12 gauge shooting.
