The stock front site is ...

The stock front site is this black chunk of metal that fills the rear sights and makes target acquisition difficult. In low-light conditions I am unable to acquire with the stock site. Since many of my other handguns have either white-dot or fiber sights it seemed like a good idea to test my 44 out with a front fiber sight. The back sight is a quality piece and I did not want to muck with it- yet.The stock front sight is pinned and came off with a little persuasion from mister punch (1/16-inch) and a few gently taps with the handle of a screwdriver. You do have to drill the HIVIZ sight and this needs to be done correctly the first time. I placed the stock sight on top of the HIVIZ unit and marked the spot with a suitable punch. Lineup the bottom of the stock and HIVIZ units when marking the drill point. I have a drill press that made drilling easy, but suspect that a hand held power-drill might be challenging. Grind a SMALL amount of material off of the sides of the HIVIZ, until it just starts to slide into the slot. Use the stock sight regarding where to grind. When it looks and feels right, place the HIVIZ into the slot, gently rock into position and align the holes. Tap in the spring-dowel and you are done.OK, sight is mounted and ready to fire so down to the range. Yes, it made a big difference and I can now much more quickly acquire targets. Yes, I can recommend this unit. You will need to re-sight the gun as there is a slight difference in heights of the stock and HIVIZ units.

Works as it should. It makes for quick sight/target acquisition. Had to do a little pin/hole fitting but other than that it works good.
