These should be standard ...

These should be standard equipment on rifle length stocks.Added pressure in cycling can be felt by just pulling the charging handle by hand, or when shooting. The cycling action when shooting seems much smoother (and also quieter) now too. Also keeping the bolt closed slightly longer compared to an OEM spring will also add some velocity downrange. Though it is a very expensive spring to buy compared to many others out there, I haven't regretted buying either of mine. In this case, I felt like I got what I paid for.

After reading the product ...

After reading the product info and reviews of this item I thought it would be a wise upgrade. After installation I went to my local range for a function test. The results were disappointing. There were many failures to feed and double feeds. Sometimes I could fire 10-20 rounds between malfs and other times I could not fire 2 shots in a row without one. Also, several times the bolt did not lock back after the last shot. I used 3 different types of ammo and 3 different mags, all of which I had used previously with no problems in my DPMS carbine, which had been completely reliable in the past. After putting the factory spring back in I went back to the range with the same ammo and mags and fired 80 rounds straight with no malfs. Seems like this was just to much spring for my gun and was keeping the bolt from going back far enough to reliably strip a fresh round on the way forward. I should mention my gun is a carbine with an A2 fixed stock. I know this spring is for rifles so maybe the problems had to do with the shorter gas system. Since the other reviewers had no problems this may be the case. I still think the idea behind this product is a sound one, it just did not work for me.

On your first shot, you'll notice that stupid twang is gone. That twang has kept me away from ARs for years, but with these in my ARs, now I have 3. A little grease in the tube helps as well. Be aware, these have a higher spring rate than the $4 one you have in there now, and if your gas system is just barely cycling your buffer, you'll start to short stroke. Just be ready to play with buffer weight and you'll be fine.

Update i have 5000 plus rounds on this spring so far , i'm using it with an A5 buffer system+midlength gas system very smooth until you start pushing max 556 loads with 80 grain bullets zero malfunctions with bullets 55 grain- 80 grain, even soft loads will replace with same when it wears out

Save your money. Replaced ...

Save your money. Replaced good springs in a 16 and 20 inch AR 15 colts both with A2 stocks. Do not see any difference in operation of either gun except the spring noise is now much longer in duration and louder. I think this is due to the flat wire design which is nosier than a rounded spring. Very disappointed. I did not even need springs. Both guns still functioned normally with the new springs which I guess is a plus.Original springs were both 13 inches, in spec, after 10 years of use.

Installed this in a Bushmaster carbine along with an A1 buttstock, 0 malfunctions so far in about 600 rnds, reduced felt recoil, and ejection pattern was made smaller. so far I've been shooting 69 grain bullets so can't say how it works for lighter bullets, still feel that it's a great product

This spring definitely reduces felt recoil, but users should note that on some .300 whisper/fireball setups (like mine) with subsonic ammunition, it may be too strong to allow the rifle to completely cycle. On my .300 whisper with an 18" barrel and pistol length gas tube, it would eject the spent casings, but was a little too stiff to allow the bolt to slide all the way back to re chamber another round. Needless to say, I traded this spring into my regular .223/5.56 ar-15 where it is working flawlessly!

I installed this spring in an AR-15 chambered in 6.8 SPC. Although I did not test it back-to-back with the original spring, it seems to reduce the recoil. The buffer no longer strikes the end of its travel with a sharp impulse.

Nicely made spring. Definitely increases the preload on the buffer and it does not coil bind. It's not compatible with the Enidine Hydraulic Buffer though since the extra preload compresses the buffer fully even in the fully forward position. You could use both but you would just be wasting your money.
