Hammer Forged over a precision mandrel within .0001" and with bore tolerances held within .0002", this Swenson 1911 Barrel is a surefire way to upgrade or replace an old, worn out barrel. This barrel is manufactured from 4140 Steel, heat treated to 44 RC and features a polished bore with a surface finish of 16 microns or better. It incorporates a National Match Feed Ramp for more reliable feeding and function with diverse bullet profiles. This is a Semi Drop-In Barrel, and due to the vast selection and many different variations of 1911 slides and frames, minor fitting may be required. Outside Diameter measures .579" held to a tolerance of .001".

The barrel fits well with no lockups and no modification. It is truly a drop-in barrel for my two 45 ACP. I started with the Wilson barrel link kit and settled for a .283" resulting in consistent 1" grouping at 20 yards freestyle. It would group 1/2" benchrest at the same distance. It is fitted on an STI Spartan and Colt Mark 4 Series 70 Government as backup or practice barrels. I was so happy with the results I end up getting 3 barrels and 3 Swenson bushing. I use a silicon carbide wet/dry sandpaper (220 then 500 grit) to fit the barrel link. I wanted the barrel link to be loose. I did not want the barrel link to restrict the final position of the barrel once it goes to battery. I did not want to scratch the barrel driving the barrel pin, so I use a 2" C-Clamp to push the Wilson barrel pin with no effort. Cover both base of the clamp with electrical tape to protect your barrel finish. Also, bevel the ends of the bushing so it's easy to push in and eliminate using bushing wrench. A 2nd barrel adds value for resale but my 3rd barrel is meant for a 3rd future 45 ACP.

I ordered this barrel for a Colt Gov, Model 70 1911. The link pin holes were smaller then the Colt link pin so I returned it. I wonder why any manufacturer would build a 1911 part that was not to Colt specs but it appears Swenson has. Or, they have such poor quality control that this barrel got through without the problem being discovered.

Fit/finish not the best, performance is great however. Fitted to Taurus PT1911, basically drop in, some light sanding/polish work. Bushing is tight, but it shoots great- 5 shots, at 15 yds, one giant hole - yes all bullets touching. Chamber is very tight, had some issue with reloads, same ammo worked in original barrel.

This is an update to my previous review of this item. This is a very good barrel regardless of price. However if you have no mechanical apptitude or if you cannot find a reasonably priced gunsmith you may want to consider other options. The ramp of the barrel has to be formed otherwise you will not have to correct jump; leading to misfeeds. This is true of any aftermarket barrel you buy. It takes 40-60 minutes to shape and polish the ramp if you know what you are doing. It took me about 2 hours because I did not know what I was doing but I got job done nonetheless. You will need a dremel type tool and a hard precision stone which is unfortunately not sold by Midwayusa but by the other guys. You need bit #10.The #10 bit will shape the ramp nicely. After that, I good polishing paper on a mandrel in the dremel to give it a high polish shine.I put 100 rounds of ball ammo through the barrel without any problems. I have not tried hollow-point but suspect it will feed well.Good luck folks and have fun with the project. I plan to buy a couple more barrels when on sale to practice creating the ramp.

I am very disappointed with this barrel. I don't care that it's ugly, no big deal but, IT DOESN'T FEED WORTH A DARN!. Sad thing is I can't return it so it's off to the smith to try to make it work. My humble opinion: Do yourself a favor people, spend the money and get a better barrel because with the additional cost of a gunsmith you'll be spending the same as an OEM part.

Excellent choice. This is a truely drop-in barrel, as no fitting was required. On my gun, an Auto-Ord 1911A Government, this barrel locks up rock solid and produces extremely good groups with most any ammo.I would highly recommend this product. As a side note: I was a licensed gunsmith for over 20 years.

I got this as a replacement barrel for my RIA Tactical. I agree with those who say it is not necessarily a drop-in barrel. But the description says Semi Drop-In, hence some adjustments are required. I have some feeding issues to address which is fine for me because I am in the process of developing my gunsmithing skills. I had no problem fitting a Colt barrel link using a Swenson pin. It is a very good barrel nonetheless and even better for $39.99.

Barrel is well made, but be aware this is not a 'drop in' barrel. The barrel was oversized in several locations, (hood length ,and width, and lower lugs). Took quite awhile to fit to the application I bought the barrel for. You should be adept at analyzing the 1911 and what adjustments need to be made as to lock-up and what areas need some 'play'. Had I known, I would have opted for a barrel that was a closer fit, or true drop in; even if it cost more.

For the price, you can't beat it. No fitting required on my Remington Rand 1911A1. But it does need some breaking in first. The first mag I ran through it (8 round kimber) the rounds would get stuck in the chamber and I would have to bump it forward with my palm. It didn't take much force and it went into battery buy itself. It did it 3 or 4 times the first mag. The second mag, it did it once. And now after about 200 rounds it hasn't done it again since those first 2 mags. I fired EVERYthing from Tula, to Winchester and Federal, to Hornady critical defense and she performed beautifully after those first 2 mags. Worth every penny to replace my old pitted barrel from 1942 haha.

I'm not comparing this barrel to some match-grade part, I'm giving it FIVE stars because it's a great product for the price. I have a limited budget & needed a new barrel, thus this looked like a good solution - it was! No fitting was req'd in my gvt model RIA, though I did file a small burr off the foot where it would contact the slide stop, I can live with that. All surfaces of the barrel, inside & out, where coated in black, so I took the liberty of sanding the feeding edge smooth & buffing it a bit, but I certainly didn't polish it and yet it fed everything I loaded. I read some rvws here that this barrel would not accept SWCs... mine DID! I use a LEE tumble-lube die for my bullets, 200gr seated to about 1.177" fed no problem. I added a custom touch some might appreciate - I filed a small notch at the upper rear of the barrel so that I can make a visual chamber-check.
