Product Information

Strong enough to break down the toughest barreled action, this action wrench clamps around the rifle's action and fully supports the receiver ring to prevent damage during barrel removal. Heavily constructed of carbon steel, it features a 1" thick, 15" long steel handle. Blue.

Technical Information

Material:Cold rolled steel, black oxide finish

Notes:

Handle is 1" diameter, 15" long

Wrench top is 3 1/2" by 4" with 2 1/2" x 20 thread screws holding the top

Wrench clamps around the exterior of the action and fully supports receiver ring to prevent twisting and damage during barrel removal

Wrench works with Remington 700 and Savage 110 actions, fits the round bottom receiver style. This wrench does not have the bushing cut-out. Barrels can be removed and installed without the cut-out.

The wrench doesn't have a bushing cutout, but it does have a cut out for the recoil lug.It is a monster wrench. You could put a heck of a lot of torque on it. The instructions refer to the idea that you could put a large cheater bar on the handle to get even more torque if necessary.If you need a wrench this big for a typical Remington 700 whose barrel was properly torqued at installation, someone used permanent locktite on the threads. As tools go, this one is highly functional. It will do the job.

Removed a shot out 243 barrel that really didn't want to come off. Worked really well- but do not crank down too hard as you can clamp the action so hard it locks up the barrel threads to the action threads. When I loosened it to just be snug tight it worked great.

This is a MUST HAVE tool, when removing the barrel off of the Savage 110 action...It made it easy as butter with the Wheeler barrel nut wrench....All I did was heated the nut until it was just hot enough to the touch, then put it into some barrel vice jaws used for the AR-15 with the barrel nut wrench and it came off without a lot of excessive strength...This is the right tool for the job, especially if you intend to have a switch barrel rifle~!

works great. if you wrap two or three layers of good duct tape around the action and replace the factory bolts with grade five bolts and use washers under them to get more torque, this will help on really tight barrels hasnt slip with me

I fought for days with the factory nut on my Savage 111fcxp. I broke 4 sets of barrel vise blocks, the last of which was locked into my 20t press, the barrel would hold till about 100ft/lb then spin. I bought this wrench as a last ditch effort, and I am GLAD I did! The wrench is, for lack of a better word, stout. Others have stated it is heavy, I would say it can double as a bludgeon or boat anchor if you are so inclined. Disregarding secondary uses, this action wrench is the only thing I can imagine doing the job. I ended up needing my 30" breaker bar attached to the barrel nut wrench, then bouncing my 185lb frame on it to eek it loose. As it was I had to put some serious gumption on the thing to make the first full turn on the nut. That sucker was really on there! After that, I just took a drill the size of the handle and punched a hole through my oak reloading bench. Drop the wrench handle in the hole, viola, table mounted action vise. The tool itself is heavy steel, and while I can see it rusting, I just keep it in my low humidity gun room, and don't worry about it. It functioned flawlessly, albeit the recoil lug didn't fully fill the slot in the wrench. I imagine this is to allow fitment of lugs much larger than a factory Savage. I just preengaged the action before torquing the tool down, prevented any damage to the bluing on my action. Clamping bolts are large and of standard size and twist, so they can easily be replaced if need be. I didn't even try using the bolt provided for the trigger guard hole, as the lug did the job. I imagine the bolt will have a larger surface area within the action for larger applications of torque. All in all, a fantastic design and functioning tool... and one that will last me a lifetime!

I used it on a Savage 114 action. It holds well and gives plenty of leverage. A good tool for it's purpose. Very robust.It's only shortcomings are: the recessed area for the recoil lug doesn't have a notch for the recoil lug index, the finish allows rust to form easily, and one of the screws is always tight.It's a good tool over-all and a must have if you want to do the job right.

If you rebarrel Savages, this is the tool you need. Its always a pain the break that barrel nut loose the first time but not with this tool!!! This helps break them loose easily. Ididnt even use a vise, just this action wrench and the barrel nut wrench.

Have used it to remove/change barrels on 3 Savages. This and the barrel nut wrench are all you need: plus some type of shims if you want to protect the action finish.Fit and finish were quite good for the price; instuctions are easily understood.This tool should last a couple of lifetimes.
