These Gated Conversion Cylinders create the look of blackpowder revolver cartridge conversions popular in the late 19th century. Each cylinder includes a conversion ring with an integral loading gate that allows you to load and unload the cylinder without removing it from the frame. Drilling and tapping of the frame is required, as well as removing material from the frame for cartridge clearance. Purchase of the proper Installation Fixture and Drill and Tap Kit is strongly recommended. No FFL required to purchase. For steel frame revolvers only. Installation of this product requires gunsmithing. This is not a drop-in cylinder.

Note:This conversion cylinder is for BLACK POWDER cartridges or black powder equivalent cartridges (also called Cowboy Ammunition) ONLY. Attempting to use modern ammunition will create a dangerous condition that can result in injury or death.

I got the 36 Pietta 1861 ...

I got the 36 Pietta 1861 and the Howell Conversion as a Birthday Gift to my self from Midway (Yes, took advantage of Midways Birthday Promo) Sent both to Howell. Had him do the fitting. It is a "Where did you get that ?" when I take it out. I give a 5 star to both Midway and to Ken Howell.

I installed the gated ...

I installed the gated conversion cylinder on my stainless steel Pietta 36 cal. police. It was a very easy conversion. The only issue I had was the Holes marked for tapping on the installation fixture were too small for the 6-32 tap to go through, minor problem. I did have to make an adjustment to the cylinder pawl, just a few minutes with a Dremel tool. The kit appears to be very good quality and I'm very pleased with my conversion.

I purchased a Conversion ...

I purchased a Conversion Cylinder for my 1861 Navy by Pietta. After it arrived I tried installing it only to find out it didn't fit. The base pin on the pistol is .433 inches in diameter while the corresponding hole diameter in the cylinder is .432 inches. Obviously trying to fit a larger pin into an undersize hole won't happen. So I e-mailed R&D, the manufacturers, to see about reaming the hole to the correct size, I wanted to know what tolerance I should have. So unless you intend on taking a chance with this product happening to fit, expect to have to pay to ship off not only your new conversion cylinder but the entire pistol to Wisconsin as well! Midway was exceptional throughout all this, and it will not tarnish my opinion of them one bit. I will be ordering other products here in the future, just not if they're made by R&D Gun shop.
