Product Information

These dies were engineered specifically for the 50 BMG and its increased demands on reloading equipment. Beefed up 1-1/4" x 12 tpi threads will work with the Lee Classic Cast press or other presses with this thread style. These dies feature the same quality and value that Lee die sets are known for, just in a larger version suitable for the 50 BMG.

I got this die set after ...

I got this die set after reading the reviews. Dies work great with Win cases. No problems chambering and firing the formed rounds in my AR 50. I mount these dies in my RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme press after removing the press bushing. A 50 bmg shell holder is available from Hornady w/c fits any standard ram. Recommend Lee dies.

Forms nice accurate ammo. ...

Forms nice accurate ammo. Matches specs of Mitchell 700 gr 50BMG rounds. Rounds chambers well on a Barrett single shot. However, Lee seems to have slid down on value. No shell holder, dipper or load data???? No factory crimper???? However, given the low cost compared to other brands, I still went with Lee....

Very good. I noted the dies are quality made and machined professionally. Rounds sizer is well designed. I experienced no hang ups even with rounds fired in a sloppily cut M2 chamber. The set also results in the least bullet run-out tested against 3 other brands. I would also suggest the Lee factory crimper for secure hold on bullet and avoid collapsing the case neck as it usually happens with standard crimper dies. The only gripe are the lock rings. You need to tighten them down to avoid spring - a minor issue. Lee is my choice for 50 BMG reloading.

Great die set for the ...

Great die set for the money. I have ran maybe 600 pieces of brass through it with only a few problems but, it was the brass that I was using. Some of it was, well, ran over with tracks from a heavy vehicle and it still did a great job with it. (I was curious) The only thing I broke so far was the decapping pin. So for me that is good. I abused this and it held up to what I put through it. So I would say it is a great buy for the money.

Well made & designed die ...

Well made & designed die set. I waited a little longer for Lee to come out with the 50bmg dies. It's worth the trouble. Rounds that I've made with this set outperforms hornady factory rounds. Just waiting for the collet neck sizing dies from Lee to shrink my groups even smaller. However, I miss the free shell holder and load data...

Well designed and made. I took the reviews to heart and bought a set. Initially had to find a press to use these but lee's classic cast press solved it. Loaded rounds made less than MOA at close to 400 yds on my Barrett 50 single shot. At less than half the price of Hornady or RCBS, this is the best value dies on the market. Great work Lee guys!!

I went to this brand ...

I went to this brand coming from Hornady. The Lee is better in terms of ease of set-up and bullet run-out. I've loaded close to 450 rounds of mil-spec 750 grain solids with no problem. Accuracy of rounds is less than 3/4 MOA at close to 600 yds w/ a mild cross wind fired from an Armalite AR50. Initially, I thought I'd switch presses since my Hornady press has the 1-1/2x12 threads. But a press bushing was available at CH4D for about $18 to convert my press to 1-1/4x12. I'm glad I switched to Lee. Thanks Midway and John Lee!

These dies are a third ...

These dies are a third the price of comparable dies from other manufacturers. Once again, excellent value from Lee. As is often the case with Lee dies, I had to initially disassemble the resizing die and clean out a little black abrasive grit remaining after the grinding process, but the inside of the sizing die was mirror smooth. The neck expanding rod was a little rough and wavy, so I chucked it into a cordless drill and used a ScotchBrite pad followed by Abralon foam backed 1500 grit sandpaper to put a mirror polish on the surface. I'm not crazy about the O-ring semi-lock nuts, but I'm not crazy about spending $15 per lock nut for the nice ones from Hornady. I may drill and tap the Lee Lock nuts for nylon tipped set screws to lock against the die threads, but for now, loosening the dies by the lock nuts is maintaining the die depth setting. The dies close on the shell holder to index, so the exact depth setting isn't critical. Use plenty of good lube when resizing .50 BMG brass, especially once fired military brass from a loose chambered machine gun. I've tried most case lubes and I think full synthetic motor oil is a lot easier to apply, less messy, and much better case lube. Tumble thirty minutes to remove the oil. Lee should make a .50 BMG collet neck sizer and a .50 BMG primer pocket swager (perhaps as an add-on to their .50 BMG priming tool).

Works great. Ammo formed ...

Works great. Ammo formed is attuned with factory dimensions. 1.5" accurate in my Vulcan 50BMG rifle at 100 yds. However, you need to use a press with 1-1/4x12tpi treads to use these dies like Rock Chucker, Redding Big Boss or Lee Classic. I also replaced the o-ring lock nuts (tends to flex during sizing) w/ RCBS lock nut. Lastly, NO SHELL HOLDER, dipper or load data are included as in regular Lee die sets! What happened Richard Lee ????
