The Lee Safety Magnetic Powder Scale is designed so that it will never need adjustment. The beam is made from a very tough phenolic metal alloy base. Phenolic is the same type material used on table and counter tops. Phenolic is tough and it can't be bent. Even if dropped, you can feel confident that it will still be accurate.

I have owned this scale for about 13 years, I bought it when I first got into reloading. I have used it to load rounds that would hold sub MOA groups. It holds it setting once you get it set. It is also very tough, My wife actually used the base for a sofa leg. Of course when I found out, I freaked. I checked the Lee scale against my Ohaus scale and to my amazement they both balanced the same charge! I keep this scale as a back up now, as it is a little agrivating to get it zeroed and to set it to the weight that you want. To sum it up, I would have to say it's a good buy, it is a little troublesome to set up but remember it cost less than 20 bucks and it does what it was intended to do.

I am very unhappy with this scale. It was part of the Lee anniversary package and it is the only Lee product I have ever used that has not worked as advertised.I can not get the scale to function properly... when trying to measure a powder charge...every time you remove and replace the pan, the arm moves from side to side along the razor edge bearing.....sometimes the arm sticks to the magnetic dampner..giving completely hosed up readings...this is a piece of junk..I will buy the RCBS 502 and be on my way..

don't know why some folks have a hard time with this scale, bought a set of weights that cost more than the scale and zeroed it in it keeps zero and is very accurate I leveled my table out and this scale works great.

I have used this scale for about a year now and how the following positive and negative comments:Positive:I have tested this scale against other scales and found it to be very accurate. I was able to reload using this scale with all confidence that weights were correct to within 1/10 of a grain or less. It is very compact and good if you live in a confined space like an apartment where you need to pack it up in its box after using it. Just remember to check the zero each time you set it up.Negative:You really have to squint to see the 1/10 grain measurement lines and the white paint on the lines has the tendency to wear off a little bit. It is still very readable but I have to use some reading glasses to see the lines better.Also, more expensive scales use a magnetized piece that makes the balance beam settle to the weight much faster. The beam on this unit just swings back and forth until finally settling in the weight several seconds later. This can add up to more time if you are weighing each load.The final short coming is the fact that the scale only goes up to 100 grains which means it can't be used to sort rifle brass by weight (which improves accuracy).In short, this is a GREAT entry level scale that is perfect for someone new to reloading. After a year or two you will probably be ready to upgrade to something better (I chose the Redding model #2 and love it). This scale can then be kept as a backup and makes a worthy part of your reloading collection.

This scale loses zero every time I drop powder on it, I dont use it because it is so innacurate and im afraid of losing a hand from a bad powder charge. It is also very difficult to read.

This scale is extremely sensitive to changes in weight so being off by 2-3 tenths of a grain will cause the beam to bottom out. (I just walked into the other room to verify this). If the beam is just about at the index mark, you're dead on. I think this is where the "inconsistency" arguments come from. I honestly don't blame them because the scale is crazy sensitive to even your breath. The sensitivity just makes the scale seem inconsistent because one half of one tenth of a grain will actually cause variations in the readings that seem significant until you realize how sensitive it is. Take a charge of known weight (or unknown, doesn't really matter) and get it to be just about dead on with the index mark. Now move the meter a tenth of a grain in either direction and watch how much the beam moves. That should give you an idea of the sensitivity. That sensitivity makes it look like the measurement is WAY off but if you take into account the sensitivity, you'll realize it's very consistent. Also take this into account if you're using one of the Lee powder measures if you got them in a kit. I bet the powder measure is more consistent than first realized as well.

I got this scale as part of my Lee 4-Hole Turret kit.It is very inaccurate and very inconsistent out of the box. There are noticeable "sticky" points in the travel (I've made sure all the parts are seated and aligned correctly), and the installed "dampening" magnets only magnify (harhar, pun not intended) the issue.I removed the magnets from mine and now it is more accurate, but still not very consistent in measuring without a lot of fiddling. A perfectly thrown load will, depending on where the powder is in the pan, read low or high. Often times it will read way off the scale in either extreme. If you flatten the powder out so that it's a layer on the pan, it reads mostly accurate. Lots of fiddling to make sure that it's giving you a consistently accurate read is still required, though. It it will often get stuck reading low and you'll need to bump the beam and let it settle a couple of times.I am saving up for an RCBS beam scale or something like that; something that is truly precise. In reality, I'm probably saving up for an auto-dispensing powder measure and will use this to get by in the meantime.
