Operation of an AR-15 charging handle can be challenging in certain conditions. Large optics or wearing bulky gloves in cold weather can reduce the operator's ability to manipulate the latch. An oversize charging handle latch has a larger grasping area to allow fast and smooth operation of the charging handle.

Its a good product, but I would say that the damage and wear that it does to your charging handle and upper receiver is not worth the convience. If you use this product for a while. Take out your charging handle and look at it. It will have wear only on one side. This is because you are discouraged to wrap both fingers around the handle and pull it back. Instead you pull the left side with either hand and it puts a lot of pressure and pushes it agaist the side. Its well made, but I think its just another "tactical" product that everybody makes you think you need. Keep it simple!

Pros and Cons of the latch

The latch was installed on the charging handle of my S&W M&P 15.

The installation of the latch was easy. I used a small punch to remove the roll pin, then removed the original latch on the charging handle. The new latch went in easily with no problems. Total time to install the latch was about 15 minutes.

Once installed, the latch makes it very easy to operate the charging handle with one hand (my left hand), but I did notice that when operating the charging handle with one hand, it pushes the charging handle to one side and it will rub against the side of the upper receiver. I've had to adjust the way I manipulate the new latch to keep the charging handle from rubbing the side of the upper receiver. The charging handle now has rub marks along the length of the arm.

When the rifle is carried across my chest using my normal two-point sling, the latch protrudes enough that it pushes into my chest. I don't take the rifle on long road marches or carry it for long periods of time so this doesn't bother me, but if you carry it a lot, then you may want to reconsider adding this latch to your charging handle.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the latch. It looks good, operates well and was easy to install.

i think this is the best tactical latch for the ar 15 charging handles currently i am a left handed shooter this latch makes it much easier for me to operate my first one ive have for five years and has been very durable highly recommend

This is a good value upgrade for any AR15. Makes it much easier to cycle the gun with one hand. Installation requires a small punch but wasnt too hard.

Excellent addition to an M&P15T. I didn't realize how much leverage this would give you on the charging handle. Makes operation with one hand easy despite the scope. I also didn't realize how easy it makes it to operate the charging handle from prone. Overall a great functional upgrade. The piece itself was well made, as is usually the case with Badger Ordnance.

Bought this for my DPMS LR-308, does not work well with this system because of the heavier spring and bolt set up, when charging it deflects and causes a lot of friction on the right side of the charging handle when it rubs against the inside of the upper receiver, it also creates a big snag point so it is not good for someone that is packing their weapon around. I assume that it will work well with an ar15 because of the lighter system.

This is a 'drop in' part. I replaced the factory part with this one in less than 10 minutes. I put it on a DPMS flat top upper with a scope. Charging in much easies. Finish is good, works well. I first bought a gen. 2 model, this one is much nicer giving you a much bigger purchase point for charging your weapon.
