The RCBS APS Bench Mounted Priming Tool was created for reloaders who prefer to have a separate, specialized tool just for priming. The tool offers exceptional "feel" and an adjustable handle for personal preference or bench height. Requires the use of standard shellholders and priming strips (sold separately)

I invested in the APS ...

I invested in the APS system a few years back and find it a very useful tool. I was tired of the hand priming tools, and press mounted tools never gave me the feel of a fully seated primer like the hand primers do (not to mention how much I hated filling the primer tubes). I like how this machine offers control over every aspect of priming (which can account for the bad reviews since there is a lot of room for user error if one doesn't read the instructions). I also like how loading the primer strips takes all of 10 seconds for 25 primers, and how once loaded, and machine adjusted correctly, loading said primers into my brass will take another 25-30 seconds. The machine has given me speed and accuracy and has performed well for several years.

I bought the primer strip ...

I bought the primer strip loader and bench priming tool, works like a charm. I followed the set up directions and it was a snap. I hated the primer on my Hornady Lock-N-Load AP. Never worked right from day one. I was using a Lee auto Prime tool, which worked well but my hands would be killing me after a few hundred rounds. I must admit I did not expected whole lot after reading some reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. With this unit I can prime a 100 cases in a few minutes and no more tired hands. Great job RCBS

When I received the tool ...

When I received the tool the handle was tapped for 1/4-20 screws but they sent 1/4-28 screws. The two do not mesh well.

I have been using the ...

I have been using the RCBS hand priming tool but bought this unit to try to be more precise with my primer seating process. I worked with it for three days and many hours and was never able to seat a primer properly. The handle and pressing mechanism is very poorly manufactured which has a lot of play in it. I was able to adjust the unit and change how far the seating pin protruded from the shell holder. But, this was not under any pressure. Under pressure, loading a primer, I was never able to get the primer to seat anything other than flush, no matter how hard I pulled on the handle. I ended up finishing off the primer seating step with my RCBS hand primer to get the .004 seating depth I was looking for. Just to much play in the unit for what I want so I returned the unit for credit.

The RCBS APS priming tool ...

The RCBS APS priming tool is well made and works fine producing a large volume of well primed cases in short order. Seating is as with any other tool, a matter of feel that comes from experience.On the short side, the tool takes a little getting used to for smooth operation and can be finicky. Removing the primer strip (partial use) can be a bit of a job. Strips hold 25 primers, factory packaging 20.

In service 10-01-03. The ...

In service 10-01-03. The problem I have had with this unit, is that the primers will "catch" the plastic inserts in the shell holder & destroy them. I have had a local machine shop make some "hard plastic" inserts, but they too have not "solved" that problem. By the time you buy the "strips" & the "strip loader" you have a small investment in a product that does not perform well. I have since returned to the old "tried & true" Lee Auto Prime. Cheap, simple, & never fails.

This tool was very poorly ...

This tool was very poorly assembled. Screws in main body were not properly tightened, allowing for a major gap in body halves. This caused misalignment of the primer seating punch, and tearing of the plastic bushing insert for the shell holder. The punch would not stay seated, had to be "loc-tited" in place. Loading the primer strips is awkward and time consuming. Overall, I'm going back to using my handheld primer tool. Not the old RCBS quality by any stretch.

I bought one of these and ...

I bought one of these and the first time I used it I experienced crushed primers, crooked, mis-seated primers and other troubles I never saw with the RCBS hand primer. The primer seating pin appeared to be misaligned and was applying uneven pressure on the primers. On the next batch of reloads, the plastic bushing cracked and the whole primer pin seized up trapping the shellholder and ruining more primers. Now I need a new shellholder too. I have arthritis in my hands and thought this tool would help. I ended up taking this thing off my bench and throwing it in the trash. Save you money and buy something else.

I used to use a hand ...

I used to use a hand priming tool, but my joints ain't what they used to be, so I decided it was time to try something else. After trying a number of tools, I settled on the APS tool. It takes some getting used to, but after several sessions, I found myself turning out primed cases at a fast clip. I also load my own strips, since I don't always use CCI primers, and the loading tool works well also, after getting the hang of it.
