This DPMS 24" Stainless Steel AR-15 Bull Barrel is fully chambered and ready to install on an upper receiver. It sports a well-executed Recessed Target Crown for muzzle protection and enhanced accuracy potential, while its additional length and heavy bull contour moves extra weight to the front end of the rifle for faster shot-to-shot recovery, decreased perceived recoil and less muzzle flip. This barrel is chambered for 223 Remington, and uses a button rifled 1 in 8" Twist rate that is optimized for stabilizing medium- to heavy-weight bullets of up to about 75 grains. A great choice for use in a varmint hunting rifle build, the barrel comes complete with factory-installed Aluminum Gas Block, barrel extension and locator pin.

This barrel is a shooter ...

This barrel is a shooter for me. Using handloaded 69g SMK's I am getting .4-.7" groups at 100yds. Beware though I wouldn't want to pack this thing very far...super heavy.

What a barrel!! This was ...

What a barrel!! This was my first build for a varmint upper. This barrel is awesome. 1/2 inch groups at 100yards with hand load. Shooting a 60gr Hp from Sierra. Dropped a ground hog at 308 yards with a head shot. I hope to do another build with a .204.

Slugging the barrel ...

Slugging the barrel reveals several problems. The bore directly in front of the chamber is the smallest and then becomes slightly larger as you proceed to the gas block. From the gas block forward it is even larger. The barrel crowning resulted in a ring being forced up in the bore as they cut from outside in. This ring is clearly visible with a bore scope. It will take several rounds to smooth this over. Overall - the price is right, but the workmanship isnt.

With 69 gr. Sierra ...

With 69 gr. Sierra Bullets this barrel shoots 1/2 minute or less out to 300 yards. I couldn't be more pleased with its performance.

I wanted to get the 1/9 ...

I wanted to get the 1/9 twist to shoot lighter bullets, but only the 1/8 was in stock. It turns out however, after shooting 8 different bullets ranging from 55-68 grains, the best shooting rounds were the 55 grain Nosler Spitzer and Sierra 60 grain varmint hp. Both shot 1/2" groups at 100 using Accurate 2460 powder. The finish on this barrel isn't super polished, which I prefer as to minimize glare. Also, as one would imagine, this barrel is very heavy. With a rifle length quad rail, scope, and bipod, my AR weighs about 13 pounds.

I have found this barrel ...

I have found this barrel to be of high quality. This is a heavy barrel but with a two pound lead wedge in the stock the balance is perfect. The grouping has been sub minute.
