Out of curiosity I tried ...

Out of curiosity I tried these in my 444 Marlin. I've been wishing that someone would come out with a .429" diameter solid. I imagine something like that would be perfect for bear. Anyway, I lined up a bunch of water jugs and shot em. The bullet penetrated straight through all 5. The petals from the frontal cone tore off instead of staying as a mushroom. The base is somewhere deep in the hillside. Granted the velocity I fired them at was higher than their intended purpose, so the results I got were predictable.

Best handgun bullet I've ...

Best handgun bullet I've used in reloading for hunting. Not a cheap bullet on a per round basis but well worth it if you're like me and hate chasing deer. I was annoyed with other hollow point bullets not giving me the near instant knockdown I like when hunting (I prefer the quick kill over the adventure of chasing a blood trail). Since switching to the Barnes years ago all deer I've shot with this bullet have never taken more than a step or two due to the large amount of damage done from entry to exit. Shoots very well out of my Ruger Super Redhawk (9.5" barrel). You'll need to watch your charge weight, due to the length of the bullet, and work up what works best in your handgun. Using the heavier 240 grain Hornady hollow points I've worked up a practice round using AA#9 that shoots similar to the Barnes.

I am very happy with the ...

I am very happy with the accuracy of this bullet in my Knight Disc Extreme .50 cal muzzleloader. I used this bullet with MMP Green sabots and 777 FFG combined with a Williams WGRS peep sight for 1-1/2" groups at 50 yards. Looking forward to whitetail season this fall.

44 mag Load data is hard ...

44 mag Load data is hard to find for this bullet. I resorted to 240gr data, but be careful of load density! This bullet is much larger than a lead 225 bullet, so it fills the case a lot more. Could not even seat the bullets to the cannelure over a starting load of N110. Win 231 fit fine, but velocity with my 6 1/2 model 44 Taurus was just about 1200fps. Lil Gun is still pretty full, but seems to compress better with a long drop funnel, and yields higher velocity. My experience with other (TSX) Barnes bullets is that it takes extra velocity to make them open up. Have not tested accuracy yet, but I don't intend to make very long shots with this handgun, just for "close quarters".

i've fired this bullet ...

i've fired this bullet exclusively on whitetail since its intro several years back. It is devastating on the large, northern bucks i come across in the woodlands of far-northern maine, my load hits 1200 f.p.s. from my 4-inch barreled smith and wesson m29 circa 1969, none of the 225 grain barnes xpb bullets have been recovered on deer weighing up to 250 pounds field dressed, exit wounds and internal damage to lung and heart tissue show dramatic expansion, federal ammunition will be loading this bullet to the specs i've found effective in their factory loads
