This is a very good ...

This is a very good knife, however, it has to be understood that this is not a working knife or a hunting knife. It wasn't designed to chop wood, pry open crates or open metal cans. The knife is designed to do one thing only - kill, and few and far between are the people that are qualified to give an accurate review of how it performs that task.This is why the knife does not have a full tang and isn't made out of hardened tool-steel (anymore). It simply is not made to perform the tasks for which those features are most desireable.On the upside, the knife is well-designed, well-constructed and affordably-priced. It's just pretty useless for anything other than "tactical purposes" and/or having in your collection. The sheath is decent enough. Nylon with a space-age polymer (plastic) insert and it's molle compatible which is a plus.It's a great knife and highly recommended unless you're looking for a hunting or "working knife". For that, you'll have to look elsewhere.

I have owned one of these in the stainless version. Great dependable knife. Once while fishing, pushed it through the shell n out the other side of a 40lb alligator snapping turtle like goin through butter. The purpose of this knife is mortal harm....plain n simple n it gets the job done.

I carried the original ...

I carried the original Gerber Mark 2 for over a decade while assigned to various Army Airborne units and found the knife extremely useful under many situations. The new improved version seems just as reliable and serviceable. The nylon carrying sheath is far more serviceable than the old leather one. This is a first class product by Gerber which I would carry anywhere in the world with me.

I carryed one of these for years. It never let me down. This one is every bit as good except that the sheath is much better! The old sheath was leather and some times would cut through the bottom. Absolutly the best tool to cut through a fiberglass aircraft hull, should you need to.

Product looks great and ...

Product looks great and feels great in the hand, but I expected more from such a long-running Gerber product as this. It doesn't have a full tang, the tip (foible) and body of blade are easily broken or bent, and the edge holding and honing properties leave much to be desired. The Black oxide coating doesn't last during even light work, and the serrations aren't sharpened in the "trough" which makes them pretty useless. Great knife to look at, but not much else.
