I like these a lot better ...

I like these a lot better than cotton. Sontara patches are all I've used for several years. The thinness doesn't bother me. In fact, I prefer it, because I don't use a jag. I wrap the patch around a nylon brush to make a swab, apply bore cleaner to the swab, and use an Otis cable to pull the swab from chamber to muzzle - fast, easy, effective, and safe for the bore and crown.

Not very absorbent. Have to use 2-3 patches depending upon caliber. Not a good value in my opinion. Will stick with cotton flannel patches.

I prefer these over ...

I prefer these over cotton patches anyday. I use a J. Dewey cleaning with a parker hale cleaning tip through a .223 barrel. Although I have to use 2 patches to get a nice snug fit, it sure beats cotton patches bouncing up in front of the jag (cleaning from chamber-to-muzzle) and almost getting stuck in the small .223 chamber area. As stated with previous reviews, it doesn't absorb as easily but I take my time and carefulness to clean my barrels with Sweet's 7.62 cleaning solvent as well. For my .308 barrels, I up the patches to the next size up and won't hesitate to use 2 patches for that application as well. I mean 650 patches is a lot! I shoot every weekend and have been on one bag for about 4 months now. I'll buy again.

Patches very thin - I use ...

Patches very thin - I use three at one time to get a reasonably tight fit in a 30 caliber bore, which makes them very cost ineffective. Absorbency is also poor. I recommend Tipton or any other good cloth patch.

These are very light weight and undersized for their stated use. The package says it will fit up to 35 caliber but it takes 2 at a time to properly fit a 308.

I prefer these to cotton, as I have never had a jag peirce them when pushing them down a tight bore. I do have to use 2 of them, but don't mind as they come off the stack in 2's.

First of all, I love Hoppe's. I'd use their powder solvent as aftershave if I could!!! However these patches were a thorough disappointment. In terms of their absorbancy, these are possibly some of the worst I have ever tested. I actually do think cut up t-shirts would be a better alternative.

These beat using cut up old t-shirts. The size of each square is good and you get plenty of patches for the price. Not quite as absorbent as I would hope.
