I like this product, it was shiny so I spray and baked it dark parkerized, I even gorilla glued it in at the sides under the grips, so they wouldn't pop out when I remove grips/strip gun etc. I glued the sides b/c there are actually tiny perforations/holes so more like a citrus peel zester than an actuall cheese grater. But it is way better than skateboard tape, it really is a good grip as I prefer smooth wood grips, so fore and aft grips are a must.

I have a Springfield Armory GI 45, a Rock Island 38 Super and a 9mm made from a WWII frame and I like to have the same feel, same trigger and accessories on them all. This product fits fine and I now have them on all 3 guns.

I give it three stars because I was not all that impressed with it. It would be cheaper to get some grip tape from a local hardware store and use that. The problem I found was that this thing was lining up unevenly, and it would slide around. Might as well have your gun's front strap checkered, or use the grip tape or wraparound grips.

This product is well worth the price. It is an economical alternative to sending your pistol out to have the front strap checkered. I found a little Pliobond kept it from shifting under recoil. To those who deride this product for looking like a cheap cheese grater - go ahead and glue sand paper to your grip. Different strokes for different folks.

This product is what it is. It was designed to add grip surface to the front strap of a 1911 and it did that well on my Kimber Custom 2. A small spot of Quick Steel on the tabs that go into the grip frame kept it from sliding under recoil. Fit and finish was very good. You need to bend the other side tab into place, so this is where I think others are having problems with fit. Install the pre-bent side first, then put on that grip. Then wrap it around and hold in place with one hand and bend tab with the free hand. Install second grip. Thats all there is to it. I have several of these items installed on all of my 1911's without checkering already cut into the front strap. If you can't afford to send your gun out to have a gun smith hand checker it, a Wilson wrap around grip is a must.

I am sad that WILSON would put out a piece of flimsy sheet-metal with rough holes and actually call it a "Front Strap Checker". Significantly disgusted with Wilsons DECLINE in parts quality. They were once quite good; now they have many of these imitation pieces of "costume jewelry" they pass off as quality products! Quite sad.Fits loosely. Moves downward and diagonally. Actually hurts the hand. Looks like a toy gun instead of a weapon! Bad move Mr. Wilson - bad move. Sorry to have to say so.

Product works if ...

Product works if installed right, works better with frames that have a rectangle cut out than the oval cut older style, yes it is a cheap product but it does work, I have installed 2 of them 1 on a Kimber Custom II and the other on a Springfield 1911-A1 WWII model, neither came out from under the grip panels but did tend to slide down the frame when gripped hard, easy fix is small amount of low grade epoxy between it and frame.
