The Lockdown Large Handgun Vault Pistol Security Box provide a secure storage solution for handguns and other valuables at home, in the car or when traveling. Designed to provide an additional level of security for conceal carry permit holders. Durable 18 gauge steel construction with extra heavy 12 gauge reinforced side and bottom plate allows these vaults to be secured to any flat surface with the included mounting hardware. A heavy duty 43", 1500 lb test steel cable is included and allows the vaults to be secured to a stationary object or the internal frame of a piece of luggage. This vault also has 4 mounting holes in the floorplate. Available in two sizes to accommodate most handguns. This handgun security vault is perfect for securing handgun in a vehicle or nightstand. The compact size fits most compact revolvers and autos. The large size fits most full size autos and revolvers with barrels up to 4".

I'd rate this product much higher, it's a well built and well thought out little safe, but the stinky foam liner is a bummer. Worse is the response from the company's customer service department: we know it stinks; we don't have any replacement foam; newer models will not have stinky foam; we are out of newer cases; check back in a couple of months when we may have more and if you send us your old box (at my expense) we will exchange it for a new one.I will look for some foam and do it myself. FYI Midway USA, this vendor is not up to your standards.Steve

The box itself is sturdy. The lockwork should be ok for regular use, and 2 keys are provided. The cable provided has a washer trapped at one end that snugs up against the inside of the case when closed so you can lock it to something else (separate lock). The foam padding *does* smell awful and it's the only reason I rated this down. I will find some replacement eggshell foam if the stench doesn't dissipate -- tried 10 minutes with a dryer sheet in the clothes dryer and no change.

This is exactly what I wanted for short term storage in my car. It fits my Sig Sauer P226 .40 perfect. My Springfield XD tactical 5 .45 also fits, a little snug but it fits. Very nice foam padding. The foam had a slight chemical smell but not over powering.

While the product itself seems well made and useful, the strong odor from the foam inside is awful. Smells like super strong moth balls. I worry that it is toxic. This needs a quick remedy.I had to take it outside immediately after opening as the smell quickly permeated the entire house. Called customer service and reported same.

I like this product. It is very sturdy and functional to lock my pistol in my vehicle. It is a heavy gauge steel and the lock seems sturdy. The foam is rather thick, and to close the product with my Glock 23 in it, I must press down with significant pressure. The only thing I do not like is that the foam stinks so bad it would give you a headache if you left it open indoors. I use the product daily as I wear the pistol at work.

This item contained foam padding that has a strong, foul chemical odor. When I contacted the company they said "Thank you for purchasing our Lockdown Hand Gun Vault. We apologize for the inconvenience. The foam that is in the vault is the only foam that we have. So if we replaced the foam it would still be smelly. Sorry we couldnt be of more assistance." Wow, that says it all!

This product is very solid, but there seems to be some confusion on the actual length dimension. It has been listed in error on most web sites. The usable inside length is 9 7/8 inches, width is 6 1/4 inches.This product is definitely a thicker sheet metal, and in my opinion, much better overall compared to Secure-It brand. Revolver shooters looking at this product need to carefully check the dimension above.I bought this case specifically for a Ruger Mk3 22/45 Hunter model 5.5 barrel and it FITS nicely, but very snug with 1/4 less inside case length would have prevented its use. 1911 owners will appreciated the extra room over the Secure-It brand. Overall I like it, and recommend it.
