This scale works fine, but it is made of PLASTIC! It is extremely light, so if you bump it at all it moves. And when you pick it up it just feels like junk, too light and flimsy. I kind of expected to see a "made in china" sticker on the bottom of it. If Lyman would have made a cast base, or even added some sort of weights inside the hollow plastic base it would make this scale much better in my opinion. I replaced this scale with one from rcbs with a cast aluminum base.

Great scale, works like a charm. Very accurate and easy to use. For those who had trouble getting it to zero, I don't understand. my only dislike is its plastic base but it doesn't affect it whatsoever.

I bought this scale to replace an RCBS scale stolen from me when I lived in California. The RCBS scale had a metal base and I liked the adjustment mechanism for tenths of a grain better (this one is a little, thin counterweight that too easily is jostled). The balance beam on this one is more heavily dampened than the RCBS one which I find works out better for me than the RCBS. Overall this is a good scale for the money, but I think if I had to do it over again, I'd spend a little more for the RCBS 505 even though it has a lower capacity.

It works well and is very accurate. My only complaint about it (and it could just be a problem with my particular scale) is that the adjustment slide isn't pointing exactly at the "0" or any of the hashes - it points between them. Somewhat annoying, to be sure, but once I figured out that just to the RIGHT of the reading was the intended spot, things were OK. Other than that, it's a good scale. Would I buy it again? Probably not; I'd probably look for something that has a bit better quality control - perhaps spend a bit more and get an RCBS.

I purchases this scale because of the capacity, and was extremely disappointed. The hollow plastic base looks decent before you handle it, but feels cheap, it's very lightweight. Also, the 1/10 grain slide is a pain to move one notch, you can't slide it over the notch or it get's stuck at an angle, and it's difficult to pick up and move one notch at a time, frustrating. The slide was not straight, had a slight bend to it. But the real show stopper was that from the factory it must have been calibrated at the 5 grain mark. (Since the marks started right in the middle of 0 and 5 grains, poor to begin with). If you put it on zero it would not zero out (you would have to tilt the scale 20 deg, way off). If you set it to 5 grains it would zero out, but then you could not select 500 grains, there weren't enough notches. So if you weighed two bullets and then weighed them separately (with it zeroed out on the 5 grain notch, between the 0 and 5 grain marks), it did not add up to the total weight of the two. This scale suffered in quality and I was extremely disappointed. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because it was consistent, but that doesn't matter if it was consistently wrong. I exchanged it (no problems there) for an RCBS 1010, a lot higher cost, but you get what you pay for, it's worth it. You don't want to skimp when weighing the most critical item, the powder charge. Thank you.

I can not get this scale ...

I can not get this scale to zero out on the zero mark and I have to re-zero it. It seems each time I go to use it. To get it to zero I usually wind up 5 grains off + or - by the marks and have to add or subtract that for my actual weight. This was the first balance beam scale I had ever had and just assumed that was just "the way they are" until a friend of mine gave me a old Redding scale that his dad had owned. After using that old Redding once I boxed up this new one and gave it to a buddy with the instructions of "don't use it for powder." I have a very good opinion of Lyman products overall but would not recommend this scale.

I am amazed at the precise accuracy of this scale. I have a set of calibration weights. If you zero the scale, it will be within one-half of a tenth (usually better) at any setting I have tried up to around 150 Grains. I always use the calibration weights, just to "make sure" before I start measuring my loads. This scale is always right on the money, for low weight pistol loads (3 - 4 grains), or when I am sorting bullets at higher weights. They got it right with this scale.The magnetic damping on the arm is very effective also. It settles in to the reading within a few seconds.I wanted a scale that would work through a larger range,as I alway sort both my bullets and my brass prior to loading. This one works with extreme precision for lower power ranges, and just as accurate for sorting components. With the very fast damping, it is almost as convenient as an electronic scale, at half the price. (And maybe I am old-fashioned, but I trust this one more than any electronic scale). Great product.I have the utmost confidence in measuring my powder charges!
