The L.E. Wilson Trimmer Case Holder provides the ultimate accuracy and uniformity for trimming your cases. The unique design of the case holder supports the case body, much like a chamber of a firearm. The Case Holders are precisely manufactured for consistent results and repeatability. The case holders can also be used for primer pocket reaming, neck reaming, and deburring with the L.E. Wilson Uniform Deburring tool (sold separately). Case Holders listed for fired cases will work on fired cases only. Holders listed for new cases will work on new and resized cases only.

I tried this gauge on 3 different types of new unfired brass, Norma, Hornady and Nosler Custom. It didnt fit any.. Skip it.

When I bought the Wilson ...

When I bought the Wilson Case Trimmer to use for .308 Win cases, I read Brian Smith's review about the resized/new case holder. I was not yet convinced to buy only the case holder for fired cases. To be on the safe side, I bought both the fired and resized/new case holder. Here's my evaluation of both: The resized/new case holder fits new cases dead center, with the same length of brass protruding from both sides of the holder. With resized cases, the case mouth protrudes barely enough to trim, maybe .05". It does work as advertized with both new and full-length resized cases. The fired case holder works for all four brass conditions: new, full-length resized, neck-sized and fired. Fired (and therefore neck-sized) cases fit perfectly. Resized cases slide in until their extractor groove is covered completely with only the rim protruding. The head of new cases actually slide all the way into the holder, but they remain close enough that you can seat them snugly with the tip of your thumb. You may be wondering if the long horizontal adjustment screw on the case trimmer can fit through the case holder to rest against the case head. It will fit, even all the way through the case holder. Therefore, the fired case holder works on brass in any condition. Trust me. Buy the fired case holder so that you can use it on new, full-length resized, neck-sized, and fired cases. Save some money! Reloading equipment is already expensive enough!

If you already have the ...

If you already have the fired gage, skip this one. It only allows a couple thousandths of an inch of the brass to protrude, not enough to even get the brass back out of the gage. The fired gage will work just fine on new / resized cases.
