If you're looking for an opportunity to do some cheap practice shooting with your favorite carry or competition gun, convert your 1911 to fire rimfire ammunition in just minutes. This high quality unit fits most 1911-style, single stack handguns chambered in 45 ACP. (Not compatible with ramped barrel and will not work with a 1911 chambered in 40 S&W, 38 Super or 9mm Luger) These drop-in units require no modifications to your gun and do not require changing mainsprings. Conversion units will fit compact models, but the magazine will protrude slightly below the grip. Includes adjustable sights, travel case and a 10-round magazine. Kimber strongly recommends using only premium ammunition with plated bullets. Non-plated lead bullets may cause failures.

Please Note: This rimfire conversion is not for use with the Taurus PT1911 or shorter barreled variants of the 1911 platform.

The fit and finish of this product is excellent. I have used it only on my Kimber .45 and find it to be a very tightly machined slide. When first placed on the frame the .22 conversion kit was so closely machined it would hold the slide in the open position when cycled. This was easily remedied with some good oil and a minute of cycling the slide. Accuracy is average for this sort of thing and will likely depend on the brand of frame used with it.Listen to Kimbers suggestions on ammo. All in all the product is well packaged in a hardcase and is a well crafted AMERICAN product highly liked and recommended

Just received my unit, it ...

Just received my unit, it definitely needs to be "broken in" which just means shooting it with the specified ammo, working the slide without ammo is also effective. One complaint I found after initial break in is that I can't get the safety lever in the notch in the slide, its just a tad off the mark. It would look as though I need to file and fit. My pistol is a Kimber Classic Custom. So cocked and locked is not an option. Totally unacceptable in my opinion. To bad I never checked it before going to the range for break in as it would have never been fired and would have been returned.

After reading mixed reviews regarding ammo sensitivity, etc. I went with my faith in Kimber and tried this out. I was not disappointed. I cycled the action for about an hour before heading to the range. I found that as long as I kept it lubed, it fed my entire Federal 550 round fun pack with only a couple of issues mainly on the first round of the mag. I got 1" groups at 15Y from a rest once it was sighted in. The mags are definitely the weak link. I had to file down the base plates on the mags a little to prevent binding with the extended magwell on my Tactical II. After that, they seated easily and dropped free easily as well. It also eliminated the feed issues. It will definitely improve my trigger time on the 1911.

Absolutely the best .22 conversion unit I've ever fired. It fit and functioned well on my Springfield Armory 1911, even better on my Sig GSR! Don't go cheap on ammo, use quality high velocity stuff and you'll avoid a lot of frustration.

Excellent unit. I decided to try this unit on by 1911 70 series lower I use for single stack and it works great. Just shot a Ruger Rimfire Series shoot with it and it functioned flawlessly. I used GSG mags and at first they wouldn't strip the second round from a full mag, but I just trimmed off 2 coils from the magazine spring and they work great! (and a heck of a lot cheaper also) Gotta try it!!

Kimber recommends CCI .22 LR MiniMags for this converter. They are one of few .22 LR's that recoil strongly enough to cycle. I replaced the factory 22 lb mainspring ("hammer spring") with a Wolf 17 lb on the Kimber Custom II 1911, and the converter will shoot just about any .22 LR now. I left the recoil spring as-is. Low-cost CCI .22 LR Blazers work great. The Custom II will shoot .45 rounds with the 17 lb spring, but I suspect the slide takes a beating. If I use it as a .45 for a long period, I switch to a second mainspring housing with the original 22 lb spring inside.

On my Taurus PT1911, it fits and works properly; however the finish is cheap and flaking off, and the plastic mag that came with it just plain sucks. Accuracy isn't bad, though it does show a definite preference for the CCI Mini-Mags. I really hope this isn't the same finish they use on the rest of their product line. Honestly I expected better from Kimber.

Just backing up what all the others have said, this unit functions great, have gone a good 500rds between cleanings, never had any FTFs or anything, accuracy was better than expected. Only gripe, and it has nothing to do with actual function of unit, and the OEM mags work great, I just wish they made some metal mags for these units.

I do like this conversion kit for my Kimber Custom II. It is ammo sensitive and my experience has been the hotter rounds feed reliably. The Kimber magazine does not hold the breech open, so I bought the GSC M 1911 22 Long Rifle 10 round magazine, which does hold it open. It is made from steel, while the Kimber magazine is made from plastic. I removed one star because of the Kimber magazine. The kit shoots accurately and the adjustable sights are a plus.

Top end great. Plactic magazine...junk! After several hundred rounds, still would not feed all 10 without a jam. How can Kimber be so cheap! Bought Ciener all metal mags and they worked perfect the first time and every time there after!

The kit appears well put together with a nice finish. Will NOT fit a Desert Eagle 1911. Nothing wrong with the kit, the DE1911 frame is just a little too wide without modification somewhere.

I installed the conversion unit on a Kimber Custom Target. Upon inserting a magazine I noticed that the magazine was so long that the feed lips interfered with the bottom of the slide. I felt that the unit would not work correctly with magazines as supplied by Kimber. (I feel that most functioning problems are related to the magazines.) I then filed down the feed lips of all magazines to remove the interference. After installing a 16 pound hammer spring I still experienced 3 failures to feed per magazine of 10 rounds with Federal Lightning ammunition. The slide did not move rearward enough to pick up the next round but did extract and eject the fired case. After removing a little more plastic from the magazines I polished the barrel in the area of engagement with the bushing, the barrel in the area of the chamber where it contacts the slide, the inside of the bushing, and the feed rib of the slide. I also rounded the firing pin stop to allow the slide to cock the hammer more easily. At this point I have reduced the number of malfunctions with Federal Lightning ammunition from at least 3 per magazine of 10 rounds to 4 per 6 magazines. After all the above changes there were no failures in 6 magazines of 10 rounds with CCI MiniMag ammo. But, to repeat, the main problem seems to be the magazines. I told all this to Kimber but they weren't interested. I hope it helps.
