Designed to fit all 1911-style frames, this Extended Tactical Safety has been trimmed to a slender 1/8" profile for better carry use. Requires fitting by a qualified gunsmith.

Oversized allows the shooter to rest the thumb on top of the safety.

Lever is angled slightly to keep the thumb from contacting the slide and has a double angle to fit the thumb.

This safety is excellent ...

This safety is excellent quality and looks great on a 1911, but it is not for someone putting one in for the first time. There is a lot of precise filing and you have to know what you're doing. There are other safeties that are a better fit for beginners. This is not one of them. I give it 5 stars for quality overall but only 3 because it's definitely a hard safety to fit and was time consuming.

I've installed a number ...

I've installed a number of Ed Brown products, including these safeties. The fit and finish is superb. At one point, I thought that the size of the this extended safety would be a little thin, but it's perfect. And after fitting, the engagement and release are crisp and positive, but not too difficult. Very nice part. By the way, if these parts look "brown" instead of "blue" when you get them, don't panic! The brown stuff rubs off with a patch and some CLP, leaving a very nice deep blue. Overall, it's one of the best parts I've found. Ed Brown's other 1911 parts are fantastic as well, with the same high-quality blue finish.

I ordered both this Ed ...

I ordered both this Ed Brown thumb safety and an STI safety at the same time because I wanted to replace the ambi safety on both a Springer and a Nighthawk Custom Talon 2. I ended up putting the Ed Brown on the Nighthawk Custom and the STI on the Springfield Champion Operator. The Ed Brown safety has a lot more material that has to be removed and is much harder to file than the STI safety. It took me almost 90 minutes but I used good Nicholson files and really took my time. the result was a great fitting safety which matched up to the sear perfectly. The Ed Brown safety is harder metal than the STI (which took me only about 25 minutes to fit to the Springer), although I am happy with both of them. the pad on the Ed Brown is narrower than the STI so if you require a wide safety pad, then do not buy this Ed Brown safety. However, if you want a low profile narrow safety for a carry gun, then this I believe would be perfect. My feeling after fitting both safeties is that if you have a semi-custom or high-end 1911 and dont mind really spending a lot of time filing and fitting, then go for the Ed Brown. Great product and I wouldn't hesitate to buy again. I will be buying more Ed Brown products for my 1911s in the future.

High quality piece. Metal ...

High quality piece. Metal is not so hard as the McCormick safety I tried at the same time. The McCormick took a lot of effort to stone and fit. The Brown safety was much easier to work with. Fit and finish are superior. The Ed Brown safety does NOT mar the finish. The stock Springfield and the McCormick safeties chewed up the side of my 1911. My only complaint is that the pin is a smidge undersized for the hole in my Springy. It would be nice if it was a couple thou larger in diameter.

I have used two of these, and just ordered two more after a very disappointing experience with a Nighthawk safety. The Browns have a perfect size lever for a carry gun, and the pad for fitting is proportioned the way it should be, with plenty of metal in the right place. It can be fitted readily with a good file and a little patience. Excellent product.

I installed this on a ...

I installed this on a Springfield mil-spec (not the GI model) 5" 1911. The safety itself is a good quality piece, though I think its manufacture could be a little more precise, and the color has an odd brownish tinge that doesn't really match bluing or parkerizing. However it works fine and was fairly easy to fit, with the caveats below. I find the size a little small and will probably get a "wide" model next time I install a 1911 safety on something. FITTING: you must have an excellent understanding of the 1911 and a willingness to completely disassemble the gun to install this. Do not try to cut corners and don't even think about using a dremel. You'll need a 1/8 to 1/4 flat fine cut file. As others said, a lot of patience will go a long way in getting this in right. A really good fit requires precision to less than 0.01" or so. Patience, precision, an understanding of how the 1911 works.

I replaced the original ...

I replaced the original Colt thumb safety in my series 70 with the Ed Brown. Excellent fit and finish. Gave me the thumb leverage that I needed to activate and deactivate the safety comfortably without changing my grip. Easy and minimal work to fit correctly to sear. Just go slowly, file, fit and try several times. A person with patience for detail and an understanding of files can install this easily.

Very good product. It looked a little thin in the photos, but the size ended up being so good, I got several more. Fit and finish are first rate-fit onto 3 different frame brands perfectly well. The stainless will match fine and if the blue is right. I would not hesitate to recommend this product.

Don't even think for a ...

Don't even think for a second that this part will be "drop in". That said, with a small file, a good light to see by, an eye for detail, and an hour or so of your undivided attention, and you will have a great improvement from that standard small factory safety.
