The Hornady Lock-N-Load Classic Press Kit is a great kit to get started in reloading. Another great product ...

Another great product from Hornady. I received this kit for Christmas and was setup to load in no time. The "lock-N-load" bushings are great for switching dies from sizing to seating, and especially for switching calibers. The scale is accurate, quick, and easy to read. The press itself is smooth and easy to operate, and the priming system has been precise so far. No need to hand-prime with this press. Make sure to also spray the bottom of the hopper with cleaner when cleaning the powder measure before use, I didn't see it in the instructions and had some powder stick there on my first loading. My only dislike on the whole kit is the metering chamber: It is hard to adjust precisely and is not as consistent as I'd like (varies about .2 grains either way from charge to charge). This is really only a problem since I load for a .22 Hornet and charges are very small, for my larger rifles the variation doesn't have as much of an effect on velocity/accuracy. The micrometer inserts provided by Hornady should solve this problem. Overall I am very pleased with this kit, and would recommend it to any beginning reloader like myself.

Great Product, Poor Instructions

I loved the product, the quality of the product is top of the line. The instructions that came with it lacked everything from explaining the different components and technical and assembly. Hornady can improve in this area. There are instruction videos on YouTube so not to worry.

OK for a beginner.

The press is sturdy and reliable. The L-N-L bushings are great. The powder measure is great for rifle loads, but if you are loading for smaller handgun calibers. Do yourself a favor and get the handgun rotor and meter assy. It installs easily and it helps a lot. Yes the scale kinda sucks, but it does work. Change the batteries right away. That made a diffrence for me.Other things you will need; calipers, case trimmer, brass tumbler,and a strong bench. Nice set to start out with. It makes great reliable ammo for me.

The press is excellent, especially with the quick release die bushings. The powder measure does not like extruded powders and will cut your powder. The powder scales are not worth a crap. They say +/- .02 grains... no way. I had several come out at +.09 grains. I had over 500 fps spreads on my 22-250. I ended up purchasing an RCBS 5o5 and my problems ended there. You also need to purchase a nice set of calipers.

Love this press and kit! ...

Love this press and kit! The quick lock bushings are great and make swapping out dies a snap. I do have 2 issues with the press though. 1st, The press rusted almost instantly set up in my garage even with a light coat of lube. Not too big a deal, brushed it off and put a thicker lube on it and no problems any more. 2nd, the scale seems subpar and does jump a lot!

Well made press. Holds settings well with LNL die bushings. Very convenient to learn on. Good repeatable powder drop w/pistol rotor (additional, ordered option). The hand priming tool leaves a little to be desired as occasionally a (small) primer will get sideways in feeder chute. The small electronic scale tends to wander (2-10ths of a gn +/-). Hornady Service is EXCELLENT. They sent a replacement scale immediately. Unfortunately, it appears most small electronic scales are just very sensitive to lots of environmental factors and have difficulty repeating measurements as do other small electronic scales I've tried. Keep good batteries in then and repeat your Tare and Calibration frequently or go mechanical. All in all I say it was a very good buy.

I REALLY REALLY wanted to give this 5 Stars, but due to the China made junk scale, I cannot. The Lock-n-load bushing setup is AWESOME!!! I will never return to a regularly threaded system. Every process is quick and easy. Changes between calibers and processes takes no time at all. In fact the only adjusting I do is changing seating depth between bullet types. I HIGHLY suggest the Pistol rotor for the powder measure if you are trying to get accurate pistol charges. The generic rotor works great, but I'm dialing in precise pistol charges. ... And ohh yes... the scale!!! I THINK Im going to burn mine so I feel better. After having a discussion w/ a Hornady Rep. about the scale and get a Return number, I did some looking and its made in "China" the land of no quality control. I CANNOT believe Hornady would put their name on such garbage.

This press is great! I'm new to reloading and wanted to get a press with a bushing type system. I was originally going to get a Lee Breach Lock but opted for the Hornady because it's MUCH beefier then the Lee. This thing is built like a tank. I looked at the Lee Breech Lock at my local Bass Pro and wasn't impressed. I know there's a lot of great reviews on the Lee but it just didn't look sturdy. All in, the kit comes with almost everything you need to get started. I gave it only 4 stars because the included powder measure DOES NOT like extruded powders. I bought this to reload 308 but the included powder measure wouldn't throw a consistent charge of IMR 4895 or Varget. The powder drum chops up powder which causes inconsistent charges. After 2 days trying to find a solution I bought a Lee Perfect Powder measure and it works like a dream with all my extruded powders. If you're going to be using any extruded powders, do yourself a favor and buy a Lee Perfect Powder Measure. It's worth the $25 and you won't regret it! I wish Hornady would either fix this issue or let customers know before hand. Again, this kit is great and I would definitely purchase again along with a Lee powder measure.

I have nothing but good to say about this kit. All around quality. The only thing I would suggest for beginning loaders is an additional load book. Lee's load book is a good buy and great one to start with.
