It's doubtful the ancient ...

It's doubtful the ancient Egyptian mathematician Archimedes ever envisioned his water "pump" someday contributing to reloaders' ease of precisely charging shotshells and metallic cartridges some six thousand years hence, when in fact gunpowder hadn't even been thought of yet, but that's exactly what a powder trickler is -- a perfect example of Archimedes' Screw.And Lyman has now taken that simple little device successfully -- but there was still room for one major improvement: It's just too light, especially when extended to its full height of almost five inches. At the pinnacle of that height is a hopper capable of comfortably holding 450 grains of W296, a top-heavy situation just waiting to become a mess if you inadvertently brush your arm into it.But there's an easy fix waiting right inside the elevation column of the E-ZEE that turns it into the perfect trickler:Unscrew the keeper ring and remove the whole upper assembly and that hollow column, then fill the column with birdshot. Level off 2-1/2 ounces of No. 9 shot inside that column, then just turn the base upside down and put it all back together.That boosts the normal six-ounce weight of the trickler to a solid 8-1/2 ounces and doesn't interfere at all with raising or lowering the column. Just raise it normally, and when you want to lower it turn the whole thing upside down so the shot flows back into the column, then bring it back down and lock-ring it in.The only other quibble I could find with this great little trickler was that the plastic hopper occasionally generates static electricity, which causes some powders to stick to it. Rub a common anti-static dryer sheet inside the hopper and that annoyance virtually disappears.And it'll save you some momentary initial frustration to know in advance that the trickle tube extension screws on counterclockwise, rather than normally, an oddity the instructions fail to mention.I noticed no leaks from the hopper, even when filled with t

I thought this would be a good idea for my new our RCBS digital powder measure the tube is not long enough to over the pan. It was a waste of money and so cheaply made I could not believe it when you slide it up It sticks and then that piece of rubber that goes on the end to extended little further tips it over. I don't know why they can't make a big one I've steel price they charge for this one. It should be made out of steel. It's a piece of junk and that's. I have a lot of equipment that I have buy from Lyman. I have two SparT presses that I have had for thirty years and still work fine. With their fine engineering that they do have a credit come up with something a lot nicer than this!!!!!!And Now That's All I Have To Say on the Subject

A good trickler, even if it's not heavy

This is a pretty good trickler. No, I haven't used them all, but this still does what it's intended to do. It does in fact trickle small amounts of powder out like it's supposed to.

I like the fact that it has a longer extension tube and is height adjustable, so if you have an electronic scale you can raise it up, or keep it down low if you have a beam scale.
As for it being light, the base can be filled up with lead shot to add weight if you need it to stay put. It's a simple solution that anyone can do at home, and making the bases out of plastic allows Lyman to keep the cost down so the reloaders who need them most can afford them.

Having read all of the reviews on this page about the Lyman powder trickler and after having used one I find that the negative comments are just not true. I tend to have a heavy hand so the bottom was pulled off and filled with BBs but thats only for my pleasure and not because of any deficiency of the powder trickler. This device is more than capable of dropping a single grain of powder. Powders like 2400 dribble with great precision while some of the long cylindrical powders like IMR 4350 take a lighter touch. The latter mentioned powders contain grains that are not as uniform and as such a long grain may fall when only a short one is needed, not the fault of the trickler. This product is a great value with the quality and functionality far exceeding the cost of the item.

I bought it recently and I love it, It works well with finer powders such as ball, flake and small stick powders, but turn it real slow with large stick powders as it will drop to much at a time.

This is a really nice product. I looked at the RCBS first and found it to be coarse and rather poorly finished. The Redding was too expensive, especially since its not even adjustable. This Lyman was perfect for me. Adjustable so it works with my 1010 scale as well as my Dillon electronic scale. The extension is great too for keeping out of the way. And the operation is very smooth and easy to use one-handed. Go slowly and you won't have problems with dumping too much powder. I can go one stick at a time no problem. Its also easy to fill and empty and seems plenty stable enough for me... I've never had it come close to tipping over. You could fill the column with shot if you need extra stability... but I haven't needed to.

Works like a charm. Adjustable height is nice. So is the extension. I can place it anywhere around my scale and use it one-handed. Easy to empty too. Mine wasn't made in china.

Junk. Powder cannot be trickled in slowly. Very difficult to get 1 "stick/grain/kernal" of powder to fall when scale approaches selected desired load. When getting close to selected load, 4 or more "sticks" of powder fall in the tray.

This is good for a paper weight. I reload using WIN 760 and the powder was coming out of the trickler between the tube and the powder reservoir. More powder was coming out of the orifice than was going into the scale pan. I guess I'm being nice to give it 1 star.

I just received this trickler and found it to be well worth the money. Many reviewers for other higher priced tricklers will claim that the one they bought is better because it's heavier, but I found this one to more than heavy enough to do the job well. It feels heavy, and well built. The extension tube is perfect for those with wide scales. Why pay 40% more when this one gets the job done?
