Sights are machined from a solid piece of steel. Height is measured from the bottom of the dovetail to the center of the aperture. Includes 8 target inserts that are locked in place with a threaded cap. Inserts include 2 post inserts (.050" and .100" wide), 1 bead insert (.062") and 5 aperture-type inserts.

I installed a #17AHB on ...

I installed a #17AHB on my Rossi 62SA. Because of the way the dovetail was cut on the Rossi, I had to shim the base of the sight. I also installed a Marble tang sight. The combo works very well. I saw a dramatic improvement in accuracy on paper targets. The sight comes with an assortment of inserts. I would say the inserts are cut too thick. I've replaced the included inserts with thinner inserts and find them much easier and quicker to use. I think this is a great sight for the money, but if I had to do it over again I would spend more for a sight with a spirit level. Because the forend of the Rossi is round, it is more difficult to hold level. A spirit level would help.

I have four of these ...

I have four of these Lyman 17A sights of various heights on lever action silhouette rifles. They work great and are very sturdy. You do need to know the correct sight height that you need, as there are multiple models to choose from. Before you purchase a sight of this quality, you should make the proper measurements. Once you do that, you will be very happy with the product.

A little filing was ...

A little filing was needed installing the sight in order to clear the barrel band on my 1948 vintage Marlin 336, but improved the sight picture 100%! I ended up using a Dremel tool to cut off the "bead" on the one insert, making it a very thin front post for precise, long range silhouette shooting.
