Nice unit except the fit ...

Nice unit except the fit of the 6-32 set screw (provided) was ridiculously loose. JP needs to find out what the problem is and get on it right away. There is no way the set screw would stay in place unless a thread sealer (locktite) is used. That would work fine for a person using only a particular load in their rifle....but it negates the usefulness of the adjustable feature for those of us using multiple handloads. To solve that problem, I discarded the set screw and used a 6-32 screw with a knurled head. I cut a small compression spring the correct length to allow fully closing off the tube but maintaining pressure against the screw when fully open as well. Same concept as captive screws found on carburetors, etc. The screw now stays in place...but could be a MUCH better fit from JP to begin with. As from JP, any position other than screwed completely down results in a screw you can literally wiggle in the hole. If you don't locktite it, or otherwise capture the set screw, it WILL move. Other than that significant flaw...it is a good product and performs well once you figure out how you want to keep the adjustment screw from moving.

Installation was easy. The screw for the gas adjustment was really loose! I went to home depot and got a #8-32 x 1/4" set screw, put it in and adjusted it for my rifle and stacked another 3/16" set screw on top of the first and locked it down. Overall nice product and would recommend over traditional gas blocks.

I've done a lot of gunsmithing on my ARs. I could not drive the 5/64 rollpin into the block. After talking to JP personnel at the 3-Gun Nationals, I learned that some of the gas blocks have an undersized hole. I redrilled to 3/32 and installed a pin from a local hardware store successfully. Now the product works.

From a performance standpoint, this is an excellent add-on. It allows the tailoring of your rifle and it's cycling to your specific ammunition and is very simple to use. I put one on a DPMS/Olympic HBAR target gun I built and it allowed me to tune the rifle to consistently drop sub MOA groups at 200 yards easily with British military surplus ammo, so the potential for carefully tuned ammunition combinations with good hand loads has got to be almost infinite. The only thing that kept me from rating it 5 stars is that the gas adjustment screw, visible in the picture from the right upper side, has an annoying tendency to want to walk or move, as the tolerances are rather loose regarding how it is threaded into the block. This is particularly a problem as the contour of the block itself doesn't lend itself to the use of a standard flat lock nut or anything similar that would allow it to be secured once set. The fit is loose enough that I'm afraid I'll end up losing the screw at some point. Any suggestions from the Midway or JP tech folks on what to do with this would be welcome. Otherwise, the part is an excellent performer.
