Machined from solid 416 stainless steel barstock, heat treated to 40-42 HRC. Barrel is cut rifled with a 1 in 16" left hand twist. Barrel may need to be fitted by an experienced gunsmith. Storm Lake requests that they be contact first regarding any issues with a Storm Lake product.

Works great. I use the 40SW magazines, and didn't have to change out the recoil spring. I get the occasional stovepipe which a lighter recoil spring may help.

I have had this barrel ...

I have had this barrel installed in my .40 S&W XDm 4.5 for several months but until recently had only used it as a "range" gun for practice. I have only used Springfield factory 9mm magazines with it but initially had some function issues that cleared up 100% upon swapping the factory (.40 S&W) recoil spring for a 16 pounder. I recently attended a "Tactical Pistol" class that required factory ammo only. Being kind of frugal, and since factory 9 is much cheaper than .40, I decided to take the converted XDm and bought the cheapest 9mm ammo I could find, Wolf 115 grain. I had shot a few magazines of this ammo at the range on several previous occasions and had no issues. Not long into the class however I started to experience various feeding issues. The Instructor told me to leave the line and lube up (DUH!). A little CLP and all was well again through 400+ rounds. To sum, I am very happy with this barrel and have found that with the correct mags, recoil spring (and a little oil) you can save some money and still enjoy 100% functioning.
