The base is nice and heavy, but that is its best feature. I thought it was difficult to tell if you were close to being balanced or 0.1 grain high or low. All the conditions, -0.1, 0, and +0.1 are very close on the scale. The Redding #2 is a much better scale, you could very easily tell if you were 0.1 grain too high or too low. On the Redding, you could even tell if you were 0.05 grains too high or low. The Redding #2 was much better.

The one I received is accurate and repeatable. I have some calibration weights that I used to test. The readings matched my 20yr old Pact Electronic Scale to the tenth of a grain on both calibration weights.I still like my Electronic Scale better, but wanted a non-electronic one as a back-up.

I've had one of these for around 20 years and it's still going strong. I let it get (very) dirty recently and it was off a little until I cleaned it, now it's just like new. The experience got me to feeling a little paranoid, so I picked up one of the RCBS weight check kits to make sure it was still accurate. It's dead on. It will probably outlast me.

I have used this scale for several years with no problems. I normally meter out 10 charges at a time and then divide the result of the weight by 10 when setting up and adjusting the measuring screw. This allows for greater accuracy when metering individual charges.

I grew up with my grandpa's 505 then I decided to get my own and its nothing like his. very poorly made, could not get it to zero. then the set screw froze up on me. didnt even get powder in the pan before i returned it.

Received this 505 scale in the RCBS rock chucker kit. Absolute junk. First the damping magnets were laying in the box as they were not installed correctly and fell out. Scale will not dampen, takes 2-3 minutes to zero. Really disappointed. I will not be buying any more RCBS products.

I have had this scale since the beginning of time. Seems like I paid about $30.00 for it - that will say something about age. It is simple to use, repeatable, accurate and durable. I have a digital scale that I use as a reference. It is still more accurate than my eyes can resolve.

Recently bought this from Midway to replace a Lee Safety Scale and the difference is like night and day. Very easy to zero and change charge weights and settles very fast. Right out of the box I zeroed it and tested it with check weights and it`s spot on the money. A pleasure to use. It would be nice if the pointer scale was graduated in tenths but I still give it 5 stars. Highly recommended.

I ordered a new RCBS 505 that came today. Unpacked it and set it up. So far so good. Then I tried to calibrate it. The plastic calibrate wheel just spun around on the shaft and the calibrate screw would not turn. This thing was dead out of the box. Very disappointed. Returned for refund.
