Good bullets for 45-70 ...

Good bullets for 45-70 Gov't and 458 Win Mag. In my Marlin 1895, these bullets group less than 2" from 50 yds. I also shoot these to about 2,000 fps in my 458 win mag Ruger M77 rifle. I managed to install a gas check on the bullet after reading a review of the RCBS press mounted bullet puller in this website; how a gal used the said tool to put a gas check groove and gas check on any lead bullet. I'm able to fire full power loads with this bullet + gas check in my rifle w/o leading. Save me a lot of $ from buying costly FMJ bullets.

Some of the bands were ...

Some of the bands were not completely filled out and maybe two out of 100 have other defects, such as pinholes. The weight was fairly consistent. Accuracy was as good as any others.

I initially bought these to load a handful of black powder cartridges for a seasoned citizen friend who has a shootable Phoenix rifle in .45-70. I've used the rest of the initial buy with two modern Winchester Model 1886 .45-70 rifles that have perfect bores. The load in my Winchesters was the Ken Waters "best" Model 1886 26" barrel load using H-4831 powder. Accuracy at 100 yards in these two Winchesters was 1-3/4" at 100 yards. Velocity is 1,470 fps in a 26" barrel. The lot of bullets I got showed some frosting from being cast in moulds running a bit on the hot side, but this single load that I've tried so far shot well and would be cause for me to buy them again. The SPG lube seemed to work better in the 22" barrel than in the 26" barrel. No lead indications in the former, but light grey (no slivers or chunks) showed up in the last few inches of the barrel of the 26" Winchester. As long as you keep these at or below the above velocity you'll have good results.
