The RCBS optional tube ...

The RCBS optional tube feeder for the Pro 2000 press is a useful option. For those who hate or are tired of the APS (plastic strip) system offered as standard equipment on the Pro 2000 press, it may be just what you are looking for. When I first took the thing out of the box, I was a little perplexed as to just how the thing worked. Also, the instructions provided by RCBS leave something to be desired. The pictures were small as well as the print. There also was not a "blow apart" diagram which RCBS provides with just about all of their products. Because of this, it took me one to two hours to install the thing and adjust it. It works about like any other tube primer feeder on a progressive -- but slightly differently. Instead of a fixed dog-legged wire that a single wheel rides on attached to a primer arm, there are two wheels with this thing. One wheel is pushed up with the shellplate. When this touches the dog-legged wire, the wire itself "moves" and contacts another wheel attached to the primer arm. This allows the primer arm to move back and forth. The wire is attached to a block on the primer tube and swings like a child's swing set.The primer tube on the unit is protected with a safety tube -- supposedly to help protect the user against the worst should it happen. Primers are picked up in a separate primer pick-up tube and placed on top of the safety tube. When a spring clip is pulled, the primers slide down easily. There is a clear plastic rod which is inserted and this keeps the primers feeding flawlessly. The rod also acts as a hold back on the primer arm when the last primer is gone. RCBS also provides a tube to quickly empty the primer tube if desired. This tube is placed where the primer seater cup goes. When the press handle is pulled, the remaining primers in the tube "fall through" and exit the bottom of the unit. The only small thing I did not like about the unit is the primer cup seating. When I got my Pro 2000 I ...

When I got my Pro 2000 I had a lot of loose primers, so I tried using the strip-loader which RCBS supplies with the press. I had some trouble with it and didn't relish loading a great many strips one at a time, so I thought I'd try the tube feed. It took some time to set up, and at one point I was baffled because the stiff wire would not line up with both rollers at once. Called RCBS and they got to the root of the problem: one of the rollers had been mounted (at the factory) with the roller on the wrong side of the bar to which it is attached. I removed it, moved it to the other side & all is well.
