The Competition Electronics Pocket Pro Shot Timer emits start beep then senses sound of the shot to record time. A par time mode allows a stop beep to be set. Start beep may be instantaneous or set with a random delay from 1 to 3-½ seconds. Features ergonomic design and belt clip. The main display may be configured three ways: Review, Split time and Par time standards. The ergonomic designed start button on side so right or left hand doesn't cover microphone or buzzer. Official Timer for Winter Range and End of Trail Cowboy matches.

I would give this product ...

I would give this product 3 1/2 stars. The outer case seems durable, and very protective of vital components. It does seem a little small, and some controls a little close together, but some would just say it was a handy size. And, the Pocket Pro funtions as per the instructions. I have only used mine as an individual timer, and not in competition, but it funtioned perfectly. My biggest complaint is the small size of the Rand/Inst switch on the side of the unit. I cannot even move it with my thumbnail as it is recessed into the case too far. I have to get out a pointed object (pen, knife point, etc.) to move it. Correcting this flaw would change my rating of this instrument from a 3 1/2 to 4 or 5 stars.

Basic and gets the job done

The product is easy to use. It's a very large timer but it is loud enough to use with hearing protection and the display and buttons are big and easy to see. Operation is a breeze and it performs all of the basic functions you'd want. If I could add one feature to it - I'd add that the start and stop timers make a different tone so in timed drills people could tell the difference between "fire" and "cease fire" tones.

A good timer for all sorts of practice

I use this to help practice for PPC, bullseye, first-shot drills, etc. So far everything is just fine. I'm especially happy that it seems to pick up only my shots even if there is a .45 blasting away in the stall next to me.

The shot timer adds another element to your shooting practice. This model is very easy to use and is well made. I have been using it for 6 months with zero issues and the auto battery saver (automatically shuts off if not used) has worked well as I am still on the first battery. If Midway USA were a woman, I would beg her to marry me!

I shoot practical pistol and this is the same timer that I use. I use my personal one for practice for draw time and shots fired. I would highly recommend this timer for practice.

Simple. Effective. Durable. Works well. Made in USA.As in management - if you don't measure and track it, you can't improve it. Same with shooting. You have to be able to measure and set faster and faster par times to push yourself to get better. This is a great timer to help you reach that next level in shooting. If you look around at different shooting events, you will invariably find one of these being used, and with good reason. They simply work, and work well.Replacement parts, if needed, are also cheaply available in the U.S.Get one to improve your game. You can't go wrong.

Bought this timer so I could use the random start to time myself. Great product. Great service! I broke the plastic view window due to my own negligence. E-mailed Competition Electronics on a Sunday, got a return E-mail on Monday morning. Called the number and they sent me two new windows cheap! Way to go!

The first Pocket Pro Shot ...

The first Pocket Pro Shot Timer had a malfunctioning random start function. The buzzer consistently sounded between 4-1/2 and 5 seconds rather than randomly, as advertised, between 1 and 3-1/2 seconds. MidwayUSA quickly sent a replacement. The second unit had the same defect for the random start function as had the first unit. After 8 days and 4 phone calls, I learned that MidwayUSA could not check a item for proper function prior to shipping and if this was the item I wanted, I was told I could exchange again and see if it worked, and if it didn't, for me to call the manufacturer direct next. The one star rating reflects the two units with the same defect.

I purchased this timer only recently, and I have not used it extensively yet, so I cannot comment on its long term durability. However, it functioned properly for me out of the box, and it appears to be a quality product. I have found it easy to use for my purposes. I agree with the review comments of others that the slider switch on the side of the unit is somewhat difficult to use, and that a dedicated 'OFF' switch would be appreciated. Also, I found that the battery compartment barely has enough room for the battery and the wires, so the cover can be difficult to install. Finally, one personal aesthetic concern that I have is the translucent blue case style, which reminds me of the first generation iMac computers. I suppose this styling appeals to some people, but I am not particularly fond of it. In spite of these criticisms, I am satisfied with this product overall.
