Comments about Speer Bullets 270 Caliber (277 Diameter) 150 Grain Spitzer Boat Tail Box of 100:

I only have range experience with this bullet but I also load for my brother who hunts in Alabama and South Carolina where deer limits are liberal. Accuracy: consistent 1/2" groups at 100 yards, 3-5 shots, with 3 of my 270s and my brothers 270. He has taken at least 30-40 deer with this bullet pushed by either max load IMR4350 or 4831. Seems like his Ruger M77 liked the hotter loads even though it was a feather wt barrel. But I did seat the bullets where they were right at the lands. My brother's shots were from 3 steps to over 350 yards in our cotton fields. Never lost a deer, in fact, he states he never even had to track one. He states that they "always were laying there on the ground where I shot 'em." Some pass throughs, some not. Some head shots, (on does), some shoulder hits, and yes, one or two "Texas heart shots" (not to be offensive). My brother has also used ballistic tips. He just requests that I keep the loads coming, he'll use whatever works. So for his experiences, I give this bullet a 5 star for price, accuracy, and terminal performance. On deer, there really doesn't seem to be a need for any other bullet unless you just like the looks. I've tried so many bullets because I used to work for a custom gun and reloading store in Arizona, so prices for me were discounted. Bottom line: who cares what the bullet really looks like after it does its job? If you killed your quarry quickly and cleanly, it really does not matter.
