The Caldwell Low-Profile E-Max Electronic Earmuffs combines great circuitry with a low profile earcup that's ideal for shotgun shooters and action shooters. The two microphones in the E-Max amplify sounds below 85 decibels, which amplifies normal communication, range commands, and environmental sounds. Above 85 decibels, the microphones shut off for a split second to protect the shooter's hearing. The E-Max Low-Profile Earmuffs are now available in pink, to accomodate all the lady shooters out there.

Absolutely love these ...

Absolutely love these muffs there so compact and they cut out gun fire instantly, after which you are able to hear normally again within a few seconds. There is a very small amount of static and I mean it's very low, maybe it's more like a slight hiss. I not really sure you would notice it except in a really quite room, I'm pretty sure once on the range I won't even notice it. It also does a really good job of amplifying normal conversations actually I was trying it out in front of the tv and I could easily hear every word and if you turn it up it actually will kind of give you super hearing. The only negative is they are a little snug for me but I carefully bent them back a few times and they loosened up a little. Another plus is it only takes two AA batteries some take 4. Overall I'm really pleased especially with the fact these were on sale, hard to see how you could get much of an improvement unless you spend a heck of a lot more. Good Luck

I purchased 2 sets of the ...

I purchased 2 sets of the Caldwell Low Profile E-Max electronic earmuffs. They worked GREAT when I first purchased them. Whenever a gunshot would go off, the earmuffs effectively shut off the sound before it got to my ears. It was very obvious when they were working. All noise would cancel, including someone's voice if they were talking during the shot. I was really impressed.But over time, I began to notice the noise cancellation was beginning to lag the shot. I would hear the first part of the shot loudly, but then the rest of the shot would be cancelled. It began to lag to the point it would shut the sound out AFTER the shot. Since the muffs also amplify the sound until the shot (for voices), with the lag it was actually magnifying the sound of the shot!It finally got to the point where the muffs didn't cancel noise at all. They were just amplifying everything. So I began to wear them as regular muffs with the electronics turned off. The time frame from working to not working was about 6 months. I kept replacing the batteries thinking it was low batteries, but that wasn't the case. Even with fresh batteries they weren't working properly.

Bought one pair of these to try out and was so happy with them that I bought another, then recommended to my friends. I love how conversations are clearly understood, but when a shot goes off, there is an immediate short muffling effect, then back to normal!

These earmuffs amplify ambient sounds and noise well, but that comes at the expense of often amplifying gunfire as well. These muffs worked ok when brand new, but quickly (within 5-6 range sessions) went downhill. At this point, even with fresh batteries, they often have an awful delay in noise cancellation, which leads to the initial report of the gunshot being amplified. If you turn them completely off, they work fine as standard earmuffs, but all in all, this product falls well short of expectations.

good for the range

These earmuffs work well on the range when there are only a few shooters. I dont think that they were meant for a noisy work environment or an extreamly busy gun range. They do not simultaniously amplify low db sounds and dampen high db sounds. There are some electronic eaf muffs out there that do, these are not those. That being understood, these are a good buy for the money if you"re not expecting them to work like more expensive ones.

I bought a pair last May and use them every weekend to shoot 6PPC. They work as well as my shooting buddy's expensive muffs. Very clear and effectly block the noise. Even better is their customer service, the vinyl cover split at the seam and they replaced them promptly without any cost to me!! There were no hassles, great servive! I have always bought Caldwell products and now I know why, their service.

Save your money. These ...

Save your money. These don't have enough sound applification to be worthwhile. Several of us bought themfor IDPA matches and found that you may as well not install batteries. They do keep noise out, they just don't let voices and command signal to get in.

Extrememly disappointed ...

Extrememly disappointed by this purchase. I picked up a pair of these Friday at a local retailer. I put in new quality batteries and they still proved virtually useless. I went to a local range with two different matches going on and several stages for one, very loud day, lots of gunfire and these did nothing. I have a set of the "larger" Caldwell electronic muffs and have had them for about 5 years with no issues, but these were filled with static and would mostly just block the shots right in my vicinity, not the ones coming from about 50 yards away. I had to turn them off for any protection. They weren't much good in that respect either, I put plugs in to save my ears further damage. If my set is representative of this product I do not recommend these at all. Save your money and ears!

This electronic muff is fantastic! I can hear the birds chirping and singing, the wind, normal conversation, the range master's commands, but anything loud is instantaneously "muffed." IMO this is a great price for a great item. The low profile really helps, too.
