Pleased with this stock, it fit very well. No modifications were needed, just screw the receiver in and go. There were a few small gaps after fitting. However there is still a snug fit, no slop at all. Plus this stock looks and fits me well, better than the factory wood stock.

OK, I might just be a little fussy here but, I was somewhat disappointed with the fit and the finish of this stock. I had to remove a lot of sharp seam material all around the stock. Being I have an M91, it is supposed to "drop in". Well, that is NOT quite a true statement. If you like sanding a little here, grinding a little there, spending about an hour to get everything to fit, (notice I didn't say fit nicely)then this might be OK for you. If you are truly looking for a "drop in" stock, that looks and fits good, then keep looking because you will be as disappointed as I am. I am seriously considering putting the wood stock back on and accepting it as the ugly step child it is. I just don't feel that an 1/8" gap all around the receiver is acceptable. It will require filling compound and a lot of hard work to get it to fit as advertised. I haven't shot it yet, but cant see any real reason it wont shoot OK, but it's not going to look as nice as I was hoping for. I have put about 9 hours, so far, smoothing out the garbage finish the Russians had on these rifles and another 6 to seven hours of mirror polishing most of the receiver. With that much time and effort, I was hoping for a nice fit. It isn't there. If you don't care about fit, finish and a nice looking rifle, then by all means this will probably work for you. Unless you have an M91, be careful. The instructions clearly tell you that you will have some work ahead of you. Good Luck

Took 5 minutes to install, actually took longer to remove wooden stock. My Chinese carbine litterly pushed into place both barrel and mag., installed 2 screws, done. No worries Mate!

I got a newer version of the stock with the new 'Scorpion' buttpads that reduce recoil much better than the old rubber buttpads. Sadly the fit issues are the same in the newer stocks. If you don't have power tools then you are gambling a 1 in 4 chance your rifle will drop in with little or no sanding, 3 in 4 chance you will spend 2 hours plus with power tools or a day without them sanding to fit. This rifle stock is just a wee step away from being completely incompatible with most Mosins. Also I got in 2 crooked stocks until I got one that is straight. If you get a stock that is obviously crooked just call ATI and get a replacement, they got decent customer support. Once the stock is fitted to the rifle it becomes easier to raise up and aim with the iron sights, the shape of the stock also reduces felt recoil along with the buttpad. It just makes it a good field rifle for under $200. Remember to use the supplied washer on the back screw so the magazine will fit flush and sand out the area for the interrupter if you have a Russian Mosin, or else you won't be able to load the magazine.

Like many others, I was hoping for a drop in type solution, but the barrel just plain didn't fit in there, so we pulled out the dremel and went to work. The stock looks good and provides a modern rifle on a proven platform that has cheap ammo. Down sides to be aware of in my opinion (aside from it not always fitting) is that the stock is made for righties with the cheek rest and the pistol grip is a bit thin to me.

Once I got the mil-surp ...

Once I got the mil-surp stock off my 1945 Izhevsk M44 (had to cut the barrel bands because of the bayonet lug), the barreled action dropped right in the ATI stock. The fit was perfect, better than the standard stock in fact. The action sat on top of the stock pillar, and I pressed down hard and it popped into place very neatly, so there's virtually no slop at all between the rifle and the stock.Did notice a bit of a seam on the underside of the stock, so just hit it with some 220 grit sandpaper and it looks fine. After that banded it a bit with some OD green paint and it looks great. ( I've got an Outdoor Connection green sling here as well to match) Overall really think I got my monies worth, and if you're adding a scope you need this stock. Do wish the butt pad were just a bit thicker as I need a longer LOP, but that's just being picky. After reading all the reviews I'm not sure what's up with the Model 91's but the M38 and M44's anyway should be fine.

When I first got it it didnt fit but I have a m91/30 so I Dremeled it and I tried again and it fits now I'm gonna give it a four star because it fits great after I Dremeled the receiver walls but I wish ATI just made one for every single model.

While the end product looks very good and feels nice when fired, the 3 hours with a carbide burr was way beyond what was promised. If you have the tools and patience it will make a good piece. This is not a drop in and shoot.

I've heard some negative reviews about ATI Mosin stock, but never took them seriously. Common, how bad can a piece of plastic be - sand a little here or there and it will fit perfectly? I was wrong. The product is poorly designed. My 91/30 refused to fit properly. It took me few hours to sand inside ATI stock to make it fit. Directions were useless. It fits Ok now, but I was forced to use a spacer washer that came w/ the stock. The washer makes a tang on a back of Mosin sit higher - not pleasing to the eye. There are some small visible gaps (not because of my sanding) between the stock and receiver and parts of a barrel, thus also not pleasing to the eye. I plan on bedding the action later on. Other than fitment and visual issues, the stock should function Ok, and work for an inexpensive all-around target or hunting rifle project. However, if you want to modernize (not bubba) a rifle and make it look good then consider other options.

Stock does not properly support action, very few contact points. Stock also becomes flexible/soupy in hot weather making accuracy go out the window. Does not properly support a rear pillar. Grip/trigger control is uncomfortable.
