A Timer and Chronograph in one unit. The XP chronograph circuitry works with both the original PACT Skyscreens and current Mark 6 Skyscreens (sold separately). Chronograph function includes ballistic computer, lead calculator, power factor and full auto rate calculator. Timer function features loud, low frequency buzzer with an adjustable volume and a 16-button keypad that makes entering times a breeze. Unit also allows you to download times and chronograph data to your PC. Covered by a limited lifetime warranty.

Note: This does not come with skyscreens for use with the built-in chronograph. PACT advises that it is compatible with any current PACT skyscreens and PACT recommends their Mark 6 Skyscreen system.

Worked the first time at ...

Worked the first time at the range. Since then, always trouble picking up shots; even from my M1A. Called Pact and they said it was the battery. After several calls and emails, they refuse to take it back to look at it. They maintained that the battery was the problem. Pat Thixton is apparently the only person that answers phones or email and was EXTREMELY unhelpful and did not even listen to what I was saying. The "manual" was a word doc that was printed out. It barely covers a handful of the functions the unit has. No online version as was indicated. The USB connection has never worked. I've tried XP and Win7 but neither would recognize the timer. All in all, it's the worst 200 bucks I've ever spent in my life. The only shooting improvement I'm likely to ever get out of it is by actually shooting IT.

I had nothing but problems with this timer/chronograph. The chrono rarely picked up shots, and it regularly gave spurious readings that were well outside the possible range of a given caliber. I found that PACT was unwilling to repair it under warranty. I would stay away from PACT, and I have found it better to have a separate timer and chronograph.

I have had a MKIV timer ...

I have had a MKIV timer for about 4 years I only used it about a dozen times and it stopped working. I contact Pact to have it fixed under their lifetime warranty and was told that they cannot fix it. They admitted to me that the chipsets they used in mine were a problem and went bad, but they cannot get the parts any more so they will not warranty it. The only thing they would do is offer 20% off if I bought a new one. I even asked if I bought a new one and it went bad would they warranty it? The customer service rep would not answer the question. They will not honor their warranty buyer beware. I will never buy a PACT product again.

This timer has tons of ...

This timer has tons of advanced features, way more then I will use. I bought the MKIV XP to replace my Pact timer Model #1 (circa 1985) and my Pact Model 1 chronograph. I chose the from my personal experience Pact products just work even when used hard and quite frequently, to have a chronograph and timer in one unit and I wanted the inferred sky screens. The new circuitry makes it hard to not have a shot captured by the chronograph and the inferred sky screens are great for both indoor and outdoor use when the sun is low or the clouds are causing you problems. The inferred light source is built into the sensor so there are no extra lights or add on items that will make the unit top heavy or unstable. The only weak link is the PC software, it does not download the data in a full featured format like you get from the review feature on the units display but I am sure they will improve on this. The memory is great, so you can write down your data when you get home and not while in the field.

Had the timer for about 6 months and it was working ok. One day at the range the buzzer went out. Sent it back for repair and it has now been 3 months - still do not have unit back. Have been calling customer service and they say they'll check with their tech and call me back, no one has ever called back (over several calls and I specifically requested a callback on the status). I think next time I'll buy something other than a PACT.

Excellent value for the money. It does everything I wanted it to do, and does it well (and what I wanted it for initially was not exactly what it was designed for...). It can do much more than I need, but I do intend to 'grow into' it.It has an easy to understand user interface and PACT provides friendly and helpful telephone support, which is a good thing, since as of today (3/13/06) they still haven't posted the manual on-line as stated in the limited product documentation provided with the unit. Nor the USB drivers...If you need a timer and think you might someday like a chrono, or if you need a chrono and think you might someday like a timer, I'd certainly recommend spending the extra money and getting this combined unit.Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase.

I acquired my MKIV XP as a replacement for my previous MKIV. The ability to port the date to an Excel file, the built-in chronograph function, and of course the most advanced timer functions on the market make this a class by itself. I also like the fact that it's designed and built in the USA by a true Second Amendment friend, Ronin Colman. The timer's flexible and user-friendly system of menus means withing a few minutes just fiddling around, you can get true usefulness from the device without even looking at the manual (which has been updated, BTW.The adjustable beeper sound level, mid-frequency beep (which works great with any kind of earpro) and the keyed beep function combine with other training features to make this a real "coach in a box" for a serious practical shooter. I could go on but you get the point. This is the best there is.

Product itself is rugged and has tons of features. Large size makes it a little bulky but easy for even post middle age eyes to read. However, there is no instruction book with any detail. The material they give you says one is available online but when you go online or call the factory, they say they don't have it complete yet. Battery life is pretty short as well.Good piece of equipment which makes lack of good instruction manual even more frustrating.

Timer out of the box works great; many aspects of the timer make it the best on the market. The timer as a whole is perfect for beginners or experts with the only downfall being the software expansion using the USB port. As of this date, the software is not available to transfer data from the timer to your PC.
