Product Information

Speer offers a variety of reloading bullets ideal for hunters, plinkers and varminters. Speer Varmint Hollow Point bullets feature a hollow cavity at the point, which upon impact is forced opened with rapid expansion. The Result is less penetration but tremendous damage due to the larger diameter of the bullet. These bullets are ideally suited for varmint hunting applications. This is not loaded ammunition.

Have used this bullet in several .308's, 30-06's and a 300 Win Mag, mostly for busting wild dogs & coyotes, ground hogs and an occasional crow. These will really tear up a feral dog or coyote at any range you can hit it at. LOTS of pelt damage though, if you want the hide. They really do a heavy duty number on groundhogs too, and have the accuracy for long range hits. I've busted a few past 500yds with my .300 Win Mag Ruger M77. Personally, I wouldn't use these on deer because they won't penetrate to the vitals unless you have a perfect broadside shot and hit behind the shoulder blade and shoulder bones.

Bought these as varmint ...

Bought these as varmint bullets to be able to use my 30 cal surplus guns in the prairie dog fields without ricochet. They blow up in the dirt behind the target every time, and I have not seen one bounce yet. So far have loaded them in 308 for the Chilean Mauser, 7.62x54R for the PSL sniper, and they shoot more consistent than the factory offerings .(310 dia) in my Yugo SKS. Very pleased with this bullet, it will probably find its way into more of my guns.

I don't like writing a harsh review about any of these bullet makers,but these 130 gr hp's will not shoot through the dense shoulder bone of a whitetail.I should have paid attention to speer's recommendation that this was a varmint bullet.

loaded these in my Yugo sks with better-than PMC factory results. PMC fmj ammo was 3-4" at 50 yds, these were 5 shot groups inside 1-2" offhand. Also busting prairie dogs at 400 yds with a 308, great because they don't seem to have much of a ricochet potential.

Grabbed a box these just b/c the HP looks so nasty in a .30 cal.. Shooting a Savage 10fp and what a surprise on the accuracy. Far better than expected and hyper accurate out to 300 yards. Works well in a .300 mag and 30-06 also. I Hog kill and 1 Head shot on a doe at 175yrd (.308).. Both didnt move. Not for the Trophy Buck, but awesome for everything else. The accuracy is outstanding and will buy again. Works well in .308 with Varget using middle and lighter loads

With a significantly reduced load from max of 4895 we can consistently get .5 to .75 inch groups at 100 yds. with no significant recoil from our 30-06 Springfield and Savage hunting rifles. Lead tip bullets of the same weight and load were not as tightly grouped. For the thin skinned Axis deer, feral goats and Mouflon and feral sheep we hunt here, it appears to be the ticket. My son recently shot a Mouflon ewe at a ranged distance of 195 yards. The entry hole in the lower chest was normal but you could put your whole thumb all the way into the exit wound which was a little higher in the chest. He was shooting uphill. The exit wound contained broken bone bits. The bullet remains still had enough mass to explode on the rock face immediately behind the sheep. The sheep went down in its tracks. We decided to try this bullet and reduced loads from the reviews of other using it. It worked.

I am shooting this bullet out of 300blackout ,300whisper They are great bullets I have fired <1" 10 shot 100 yd groups from both an AR action and my Boltgun. I would highly recommend getting some and trying them in your firearm. I feel the accuracy and low recoil will make this a great load for starting my grandkids hunting Blacktail!

I load this for a reduced recoil load in my son's .308 Win. With a MV of about 3000 fps it is devastating on deer out to at least 100 yards. He has dropped 4 with it so far, none of them going more than a few steps, if any. These are broadside shots behind the shoulder and even through the shoulders, nice exit wounds every time. Great results for any bullet, let alone a hollow point.

Impressive performance. It will surprise you on whitetail. Loaded around 2650 fps in .30-06, it has done well on deer. Penetration is more than sufficient- even on off-perpendicular shots. Never one without a complete pass-through. Easily over 20 deer taken with this bullet.
