Product Information

Lee 1-Cavity Slug Molds are a great choice for reloaders looking for a quality mold at an affordable price to help produce slug ammunition for less than standard trap loads. Lee machines their mold blocks from aluminum making them rust resistant. Aluminum molds heat up and cool down faster than iron or steel molds and good bullets can usually be produced only after a few casts. In addition, aluminum blocks are one-third the weight of iron or steel mold blocks offering the bullet caster less fatigue during extended casting sessions. To ensure the best possible bullets, mold block halves are CNC machined for unmatched roundness and size control. Weights given are Lee's weights with suggested alloy; actual weight may vary due to the alloy mixture used.

I purchased the 7/8 ounce and 1 ounce Lee slug molds at the same time. I've cast almost 1000 of each and have had no problems with either. I would recommend the Frankford Arsenal fluxing compound and spray on mold release (Carbon In A Can). Lee recommends pure lead for their slug molds, but not for any reason that corresponds to shooting. Pure lead shrinks more when it cools in the mold than alloys with tin, so the mold releases easier with pure lead. I've had no problems casting with wheel weight lead. Pure lead is softer and may shoot through a choke better, but I've always shot these slugs through a cylinder bore (no choke). They are very accurate, even in a smooth bore with no rifling. They are stabilized the same way as a badminton birdie, they're nose heavy, and do not require spin to stabilize them. For reloading and shooting, I prefer the 7/8 ounce slugs.

This is good mold. Very easy to break in. Was dropping good slugs after 3 tries after pre-heating and prep. Slugs shoot accurate. Only gripe is that the slugs weigh about 420 grs instead of expected 380grs. I had to adjust my powder charge. Be careful. Other wise a good investment..

seemed to work well. the first few I made mic'd at .67. Loaded up 150 of them in WAA12 wads over a 20 ga card in rem sts hulls. None of them will fit in my pumps or single shot shotguns. Will fit in my double but need a spoon to get them out. They do bulge the hulls. Don't know what happened but now I have 150 wasted hulls along with the pound of powder it took to load them. have a lot of lee molds but this one stinks.

Works as advertised, casted about 350 or so at least now, shot most of them; mold is a bit sticky sometimes but just play with lead temps/casting timing and no issue.Seems to work best for me with Rem STS/Nitro or the equivalent Rem gun club hulls with a WAA12L with the petals cut. perfect crimp, perfect feed in my pumps. Accuracy was good for a skeet gun. Tried cylinder bore, skeet and mod chokes, all work fine. Lots of power! going to buy the 1 oz. next

I purchased the 7/8/ ounce mold and have been pleased with it. It made good slugs from the first bullet (I used Midway Drop out mold release). I fired a 10 shot group off hand group at 25 yards with a Winchester 1300 smooth bore riot gun. I maintained a 6" group. I am sure it would have shot much better off a rest. The slugs did not show any signs of keyhole strikes. The included powder dipper gave light charges (use a scale). I was shooting the Lee recommended charge of HS6 with a WWAA12L wad in a Remington case.

I have booth of these molds from lee and have casted over 500 from each mold. They are still working good I use the FFA drop out release stuff and it works great. I havent had any problems with these molds and with the price of shot now you cant beat the lee slug molds. For target shooting I think they will be great deer hunting also.

Preheated the mold with a propane torch. Held a long wooden match to the mold surface. Poured a dozen perfect slugs. Slams a 55gallon drum 75 yards away. Straight through and accurate. Open sight 12 gauge 30" single shot barrel. Light recoil. Reusable shell case 5 times now and still going. I use my 12 gauge single shot to test loads. Then to the pump and semi-auto. I'm sure this is a winner.

Worked great but you have to make sure it shuts all the way. And do not hit on the mold blocks or you will knock them out of aliment.

I found this 7/8 Oz Slug to work better than the 1 oz. I typically hunt deer from 0 to 200 yards, and I find that the higher velocity is pretty nice in these slugs. Very low recoil too.The only problem I had was that it didn't work with standard WAA12 wads (I use WAA12 2-3/4" shells). With the standard WAA12 1oz wads the crimp was messed up every time. The Winchester 7/8oz wads are a necessity for a good star crimp with this slug.

Mold works pretty good ...

Mold works pretty good after you get it good and hot. I used a couple matches to coat the inside with carbon and the slugs release pretty good. I also use an oak stick to tap out the slugs... No problems, and I would defiantly buy this again.
