The CVA Buckhorn is powered by the 209 ignition system and will handle 150 grain magnum charges with ease. The Buckhorn features Illuminator Fiber Optic Sights, Grip Dot Panels, thumb-actuated safety, black composite stock, CrushZone Recoil Pad. It is drilled and tapped for scope mounts and covered under CVA's Lifetime Warranty. The 50 caliber Buckhorn features a 24" blue barrel with a 1 in 28" Twist.

The Bergara barrel on ...

The Bergara barrel on this rifle is outstanding. Sure, the sights aren't great, but MidwayUSA has some super deals on Williams sights - though if your state allows it, a set of Weaver bases & a decent Pentax scope will give you a detachable optic alternative with repeatable zero. Pros: Simple, great trigger, well balanced, good recoil pad, stock dimensions mimic those of popular American center fire bolt rifles and the stippled grip surfaces are great in wet weather. Cons: Breech plug not recommended for Blackhorn 209 powder, complete takedown required to remove breech plug, cheap sights, primer flash will hit scope if you don't cover the port or scope, needs a comb riser if using large objective scope. This is an entry level gun but the barrel is good enough to merit good optics; save money with this rifle and spend it on a good 3-9x scope if your state allows it. If you want tack-driving accuracy at 300 yards with tailored loose-powder loads, or want to shoot 10-20 rounds every weekend or to hunt elk or larger game, this isn't the gun for you; but if you're on a limited budget and just want minute-of-whitetail-vitals with adequate energy out to 200 yards, and don't plan to shoot more than one box of pellets every year once you're sighted in, this rifle will reliably meet your needs. Use the money you save on the rifle to buy a decent scope, good bullets and a tree stand. Sure, it's plain-looking, but a few cans of Krylon are no injustice to a $130 rifle's plastic stock. Overall, a superb value for a 200-yard pellet/sabot starter gun. It's just not going to take you into the Blackhorn 209 performance arena, and the diehard buckskinners will still shun you.

My Wife gave me one of these about 7 or 8 years ago as a Christmas present. In its' current configuration, it wears a Simmons 3x9x40 scope. I use 295gr PowerBelts powered by Triple 7 pellets. 3" + -groups at 100 yards and several dead deer to its credit. Simple to clean and to maintain. The other gentleman is correct about the "fragile" front sight, I broke mine too, but since I use the scope, I really haven't worried about it. I have thought about upgrading but can't come up with a good reason why! Great value for the money.

Amazing product at this ...

Amazing product at this price. This rifle has been a tack driver deer killer for me. I shoot the Barnes MZ expander .45 cal 250gr projectile (.50cal sabot) over two 50/50 Pyrodex pellets using a regular Winchester shotgun primer. I can easily hold 2" groups at 100 yards all day long. Recoil is very moderate with the padded butt stock. The trigger is remarkably good - slightly heavy but very crisp. A slightly heavy trigger isn't all bad for hunting anyway, when you have all that adrenaline pumping. Only minor complaint - the stock sights are a bit cheap though usable. I put an inexpensive Bushnell 1-4.5x scope on mine and haven't looked back. This is $-for-$ the best value of any firearm I have ever bought.

What a great gun for the money, I pulled it straight out the box and shot it at 75 yards and it grouped all three shots open sighted in a apple size ( 3" ) target...TOTALLY LOVE THIS GUN.

I wanted to try out muzzleloading and this is what I picked. It turned out great, and turns out I do like muzzleloaders. If your looking for a decent modern muzzleloader this is a great choice. It pretty much is just a pipe, very simple to take apart and clean. If you use triple 7 you can actually use water to clean with. It is accurate and fun. Recoil is there so be ready for it. And word of advice the front optic site is fragile mine broke from a short fall. And make sure to read up on SAFETY, these can be dangerous if you don't know what your doing!

I really like this rifle ...

I really like this rifle it has a good solid stock with an exceptional butt plate that takes a lot out of the recoil. The sights on this gun are great for shooting open sight. If you want a good gun for less money I would look into this one I am even thanking of getting a second one for my wife to use.
