I'm a big Lee fan, but ...

I'm a big Lee fan, but these let me down. Jimmie crickets they even misspelled Grendel. The resizer die is oversized or I have a tight chamber. Rolls a burr on the mouth of the case when pushed far enough into the die for it to chamber in rifle. Decapping pin locktited in place use heat to remove or install. Yes I did buy before standardization, But come on!

I bought a set of these dies directly from Lee Precision and they are JUNK! I have use several sets of Lee dies over the years without any problem until I bought this set and a set of 6.8SPC Dies. Both calibers had the same basic problems in that the full length sizing dies would not size my cases correctly, I had to tighten the die body all the way down to the shell holder then shim under the case between the case and shell holder to try to raise the case to get it to size the neck far enough to even hold a bullet. It was as if the dies were made to longThe seater die was just as bad in that it would not seat a bullet into a case straight to save my life! Worst run out of any 2 sets of dies I have ever use in this past 25+ years! I called Lee but the lady there made excuses about the 6.5 Grendel being new and not standardized or some garbage like that, I finally sent the dies back but then it took 8 months to get my money back from them. The Grendel Dies I had bought directly from Lee Precision so I finally got them to refund those, the 6.8SPC Dies I had bought at a gun show and those they would not accept back despite my having the original receipt. I tossed them in the scrap metal pile and replaced both sets with Hornady New Dimension Dies. I have had no troubles with loading these 2 rounds since then.Again I have used Lee dies for many years without any troubles but after the crap I got with there customer service regarding these 2 sets I wont ever give them the chance to jack me again. I replaced every set of Lee dies I had as well as my Lee presses and have been happier with my new presses than I could have ever imagined. Best thing I ever did in the end! Lee Pistol Carbide dies are OK and do the job they are supposed to do, Lee rifle dies are best left alone. RemMax

Only problem encountered ...

Only problem encountered was when using dies with Alexander brass. Lee dies use standard small decapping pin size .062 and Alexander brass uses very small flash hole size of .061 or so. Result - pin stuck in case. Either reduce pin size (and they are very hard) or enlarge flash hole in Alexander brass. Your choice. I would have thought that Lee and Alexander would have gotten their act together on this but they did not.

These aren't the worst dies I've ever owned but here is why I don't rate higher. The biggest complaint I have is the one piece decapping pin/sizing button. If you have brass that's already primed its harder to adjust the die correctly. I just necked down 2,000 7.62x39, many were already primed. When you raise the stem up to allow the pin to clear the primer, it fills up the space the neck goes into. You really have to play around with it to adjust for primed cases. I'd rather be able to take the decap pin out and/or be able to replace a bent or broken pin. This one you have to replace the stem, sizing ball etc. Now that being said, once it is set, the die works fine. I only loaded 100 of these so far but those turned out just fine. My size die takes the necks down to 0.289" The bullets look to be concentric with the case. I do like the factory crimp die. I use those on all of my handgun loads and a couple of other rifles.

This is actually a Lee die set made for Alexander. Very good performance on my Alexander upper mounted on colt lower. Accuracy is very good - 1MOA. Nice thing is that it comes with a free shell holder. Great Value!!

This die worked ...

This die worked wonderfully. I formed 500 7.62x39 RP brass cases with it without one problem, but we need a neck die to go with it. I use it in a bolt gun not an Alexander Arms AR platform. No need to resize the case after firing except for the neck and as you know that makes the case last longer.
