I was fortunate to be able to look through one of these at a gun show before ordering one for my DPMS flat top AR 15 with 1:9 twist 20 bull barrel in .223. At my age ("50-ish"), iron sights are a challenge, to say the least. The 3.5 magnification is perfect, and the glass is top drawer - very clear. The "Donut of Death" reticle has to be seen - easy target acquisition at ANY range, fiber optic light feed automatically adjusts from dim light to bright sunlight, and the tritium light source take over in the dark WITHOUT BATTERIES. Reticle also provides for simple bullet drop compensation once sighted in at 100 meters - I mounted mine, and didn't even have to make any elevation or windage adjustments - a first in my experience. The GIs that are lucky enough to have these (some spend their own money to get one!) often use quick-release, lever-throw mounts and a tether to switch to iron sights for CQB, and the scope stands up to all the banging around, swinging from the tether, in combat conditions. The scope itself, however, may be used at close quarters. If my mounting experience is typical, quick reattachment results in a return to zero - without further adjustment. I use Swarovski, Zeiss, and high-end Leupold scopes, and am VERY happy with this one. Read about these scopes on Trijicon's web site - I have found the information to be truthful.
