Works as advertised, great idea that should have been thought of years ago. If you like this shape of jag (I do), you'll love these. Sweets doesn't tear these up at all, and it's easier to tell when I've got things clean with Butch's as well. I like the box with marked storage holes. If you have more than one or two calibers, just buy the set, I think you'll like the box (which isn't available separately, as far as I can ell). Suggestion to Midway -- do a set of your Tipton "slotted tip" (aka patch puller or loop) in this same treatment, since that's actually the recommended way of applying Sweets and some other solvents.

Most Helpful Negative Review

I have both the nickel ...

I have both the nickel plated and brass versions of these jag tip sets. The nickel plating does protect the jag from solvent damage but the hard slippery surface does not grip the patch as well as the bare brass version does. I use high grade cotton flannel patches of the proper size and as soon as I reverse direction and start to pull back on the rod, the jag sheds the patch even if you are in the middle of the barrel. This happened with multiple calibers and doesn't happen with the brass jags. It is possible the nickel platting is rounding off the sharp edges of the jag causing the patch to slip. For those of you that only make a single pass with a patch this won't be a problem. But after I remove the majority of the crud with the first couple of patches, I usually work the patch back and forth a few times before replacement. Good product but it could be better.

I never seemed to get all the "green" ( copper) out of the barrel. these nickel plated jags seem to not have a bit if the brass dissolved by the solvent.

Great jags, never liked using jags before, as I always used cheap polymer ones. Definitely a nice change, and this has quite a few common calibers, along with a few uncommon. Money well spent.

The jags are very brittle ...

The jags are very brittle and easily broken. I've already broken the .45 and .40 jags right where the threaded rod joins the jag head, after half a dozen uses - my brass jags are lasting a whole lot longer. Nickel plating sounds good for being immune to solvents, but it makes the part brittle and easy to snap.

Three of the twelve jags ...

Three of the twelve jags in my kit had slightly bent threaded shafts and therefore would not screw into my cleaning rod. I contacted MidwayUSA and they replaced the defective jags at no cost to me. The nickel plating is great since it will not react to solvents and the jags fit the bores of my weapons perfectly. The included plastic case is very convenient and is marked with the caliber of each jag. Over time and with heavy usage, I expect that the case lid will eventually wear and snap off, but so far it has not after one full year and bi-monthly usage. The jags themselves perform perfectly. I am very pleased with them and would definitely recommend them.

The 17HMR jag works ...

The 17HMR jag works horribly. The leading shoulder is angled far to steep and is basically a continuation of the point, which only pierced the patch nearly every time I tried to push the jag through. I cut the patches COUNTLESS times, to the point that it was too small to clean anything - only then would it push a patch through. Nice product, unless you're cleaning a 17HMR. Then you're out of luck with these.

High quality jag and very nice case. However, the jags have a large surface area and can be extremely tight - you might find yourself pounding your cleaning rod down the barrel. Start with an undersized jag and move up. Also some solvents "grab" more than others.

My first set of cleaning tools were plastic - these blow the plastic junk out of the water. They are awesome and clearly marked. You need these!
