The Cold Steel Spartan Folding Knife has a similar design to the more famous Kukri blade but in a smaller and easy to carry package. The Spartan had the recurve edge that produces a deep sheering effect, and a narrow point so that it stabs as well as it cuts. The handle design provides no slip operation in both the forward and rearward motions and is reinforced with steel for ultimate strength. The Spartan is the ultimate folding combat knife.

In response to the review indicating it's difficult to get the blade closed after it's been opened, I had the "exact same issue" with my Recon Tactical. The Cold Steel folks say it needs to "learn" and when you first get it set it aside for at least 3-4 days OPENED and it will learn to loosen to be closed. They also say it helps the knife understand that the tension could be required for an undetermined amount of time. They speak of these knives as if they are human, or machines with the ability to learn and retain knowledge. Needless to say, I followed their instructions (but it's hard not to want to hold it while it's "learning") and four days later, the knife closed with a clean crisp "click." This is a keeper. I have used it so much I have dulled the blade, and don't trust anyone to sharpen it. I am going to have to e mail Midway to see if they can sharpen items they sell. BEST knife I have EVER owned. Just don't take it out and use it as a letter opener in the office. Some get a little squeamish when they see this monster.R3

This is one impressive ...

This is one impressive knife! It locks up and has the feel of a fixed blade, it's that solid. And it has a really mean, scary blade. It really looks longer than 4 1/2" because of the width and thickness and the curve. Very comfortable ergonomic handle in both standard and reverse grip. I don't have any issue with the closing like some others. Just squeeze hard on the spring and it closes easy. I haven't experimented with the opening with your pocket thing much but I tried it and it seems like it could work well. It's so sharp I don't want to risk slashing myself or my pants fooling around with it. This is one deadly weapon! A great value for the buck.

A nice folder. Wider than ...

A nice folder. Wider than it looks, but that seems to help with its solid feel. There is absolutely no wiggle in the blade once it is deployed. Very Ergonomic as well. As far as the bead blast goes, basic knife maintenance will prevent the rust.

Love the knife! Feels great in my hand and very secure. Like one of the other reviewers, I find the lock almost impossible to unlock. Must push against table or other hard edge to unlock.

I can't add anything to ...

I can't add anything to the reviews already listed about this knife. It is what I wanted but the only fault I find with it is that it is extremely hard to get to unlock after it is in the locked position. The lock spring is way to strong for this knife. I was hoping it would weaken up some by leaving it half open after a couple months but it has not. If you are looking for an intimidating folder and have the lg. hands to handle it this is the knife.

Was given this knife as a gift and was not disappointed at all. The blade held a sharpness for a long time. The construction is very good and durable. When removing the knife from my pocket the catch works really good that the blade is fully open when all the way out of pocket. The best defense knife i have ever owned!!

This is the best knife I have ever owned, by far. I had a crkt Hammond desert cruiser, and a buck 119 special. and the Spartan puts them both to shame!this thing is far sharper than a razor knife, and super tough. and in the reviews, someone said something about rust. mine got a little spot on it, but if you rub it with some steel wool you'll never know it was there I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this it is a great knife.

I like it.Its obviously big for carrying,but not impossible.When it's open and in your hand,it's virtually impossible to get it taken away.I've found its wave feature also works a lot better than I thought it would judging from it's looks.My only complaint is it's lock is really tight,but mine's getting better with use/practice.

This is a beefy monster. ...

This is a beefy monster. It is built to traditional Cold Steel standards. Lets call this knife what it is. It is a great folding fighting knife. It would be a little hard to pass off as a utility knife, at least my wife didnt buy it. The grip is comfortable and adequate support for striking. The pommel type end is a great impact device. The design is great. The pocket clip sits high and looks like a much smaller knife in your pocket. It has a large thumb plate to open one handed and a design that allows you to open the blade on a pocket. The blade is a good weight and designed for slashing cuts. Its a little heavy and imprints on the pocket of my slacks, but fine with jeans. I anticipate this knife will perform as my other Cold Steel knives, hold an edge better than other brands that cost twice as much, and more durable.
