Great bullet for the 500 ...

Great bullet for the 500 S&W with excellent expansion and retained weight. Quite accurate as well. Their popularity seems to keep them in short supply I am afraid. I wish Sierra would ramp up production for us hardcore handgunners.

I load these with 40 gr. of Winchester 296 powder. Tons or recoil and huge flame. Good quality bullets at a very good price.

As most of you know that read the reviews I have been working with .500 caliber bullets in different rifle cartridges, not handguns. Currently I have developed 4-.500 caliber rifle cartridges-3 that work in Winchester M70s and one for lever action rifles. I have tested and worked with the 400 Sierra at 2100 fps both in wet print and now recently in animal tissue. Impala and wildebeast. The bullet is extremely accurate in my rifles, producing 3/4 inch 3 shot groups at 100 yard consistently. Terminal performance tops out in wet print at around 2100 fps before the jacket and core start to separate. A failure in my book. At 2100 fps or less this is a very superb bullet in terminal performance. I recovered no bullet from the impala shot at 40 yards-and the impala never took a step. The wildebeest, a very tough animal to put down, took the bullet behind the shoulder through the lungs, and went 35 yards before going down for good! I recovered the bullet on the off side--about 20 inches of penetration, and it was perfect expansion, weight retention of 86%, and jacket and core together. The starting velocity was 2120 fps-the animal was 110 yards, so it had slowed down somewhat by then. This is a great bullet, very accurate, and terminal performance great up to 2100 fps or so! Use it with confidence! Thanks.

These are very high ...

These are very high quality bullets just like any Sierra product. They shoot very good and very hard from the 500 Smith. I love big bores but using Hodgdon's starting load of H110 I will soon be purchasing some good shooting gloves. OUCH!

Great bullets!I just got ...

Great bullets!I just got back from my first range shooting with the 500 S&W and the 400 grn Sierras in front of LilGun.I had plinked a couple of rounds out my back door but hadn't really shot it yet. I also had just milled me a new taller front sight for it. At the range, I got groups in the 2" to 3" size at 25 yrds.That may not look that good but I was not shooting for benchrest type holes, I was lining up sights on target and firing as fast as I could with only the barrel supported on a board, no sand bags. I'm very impressed and can't wait to add that last grain of LilGun and go shooting again!

4.2" 5 shot groups at 100 ...

4.2" 5 shot groups at 100 yds. in the 500 S&W. I wish Midway would list this bullet in the handgun bullet section on the website, so it would be easier to find. It is listed in the rifle bullet section.

When fired from 10.5" gun ...

When fired from 10.5" gun using Starline brass, 250 primer, and 38gr of h-110 it gave good accuracy, expanded to .847" and retained about 385gr of it's org. wt. except the one that went through the 3/16" thick angle iron frame that holds plywood for my targets,had to try it,very impressive.

Just Got back from ...

Just Got back from shooting my new T/C 15" Encore barrel in .500 S&W. I shot clear through a tree and recovered the bullet. It still Weighs 394.2 Grains. Great weight retention and accuracy.

Out of 18 different ...

Out of 18 different bullets I have loaded for my S&W 500 these are the most accurate bullets I've come across. Using H4227, they will consistently print 5 shot, one hole groups all day at 25yds.
