The MTM Gun Vise is designed for both rifles and shotgun and features a single adjustment rubber-padded clamp, high and low gun forks, 14 cleaning compartments, a small sliding tray built into the base, 11 screwdriver bit holders and two cleaning rod holders. Vise is made from rugged, chemical and solvent resistant red plastic.

I have used a friend's ...

I have used a friend's Tipton Gun Vise for years and I decided to give this model a try. It is flimsier than the Tipton and the return spring is a joke. Honestly, I really thought that MTM would at least be able to make some minor improvements over a model that has been around for as long as the Tipton, but I was wrong. I sold mine at a garage sale and bought the Tipton.

Having this vise is ...

Having this vise is better than not having one, but I must say I'm disappointed. The contruction of the moving parts seems flimsy. The return spring on the cam-lock arm doesn't really work. With a big gun you have to hold the vise down so it doesn't slide when you are cleaning the bore. The arrangement of the front and rear rests doesn't allow for many options for my Savage 116, and I have to clamp the butt real low in order to have the muzzle lower than the chamber.

I wasn't sold on the MTM ...

I wasn't sold on the MTM Gun Vise when I ordered it, but it looked like a good value IF it worked. In usage since that time, I have become a big time convert. It does all that a gun vise should and protects the rifle surface at all bearing points. Assembly is a simple 5 minute matter requiring only a screwdriver. The unit actually has dual functions. First, as an efficient gun rest (not requiring the vise) for cleaning and light duty work. It automatically angles the barrel down at an angle where solvents and oil cannot run back into the action. Second, with the rifle slid forward and the butt lowered into the vice, it can be securely locked into place in one quick motion for heavy duty work. The cleaning rod holders are handy and the bottom is well thought out for temporary storage, whether it be for tiny gun parts, tools, or solvents and cleaning supplies. I recommend it without reserve.

The MTM vise is working ...

The MTM vise is working out great for a glass bedding project that I'm working on. Like most people looking for a gun vise, I looked at both the MTM Gun Vise and the Tipton since they both looked like good value for the price range that they were in. My final decision was made on the utility of all the storage slots and holes in the MTM Vise and on MTM's reputation. The MTM Vise was easy to put together and came with something all to rare with "some assembly required" products, extra assembly screws and washers. I recommend the MTM to anyone looking for a good quality reasonably priced product Gun Vise.

This is a good product ...

This is a good product and it works well. Yes, it could be more sturdy, but how much strength do you need to clean a rifle? It shows ingenious design and is well worth the cost.
