Butch's patches have changed

I have been using Butch's Triple Twill cleaning patches for my 6 PPC for years and have used thousands of them. However, this latest batch is a thinner material. They are a very loose fit and don't clean the bore as well as the previous patches. I hope this is just a bad lot and not a change in production standards. I like the tripple twill because they are lint free and have a little texture which helps remove powder residue.

I have found that I never have to check the barrel after I clean to see if any threads from the patches I just used are left behind. I also think that these patches hold more cleaning solution than the patches I have used before.

I noticed that recently purcased patches were not as thick as they used to be. Upon measuring, old patches were .015" thick and new are .011" thick. On the good side it alleviates the complaints about a tight fit when using a jag in any given bore size. Obviously they do not hold as much solvent as in the past (but still hold plenty) and the twill weave is not as aggressive at scrubbing as it used to be but they are still better than most other bore patches out there. I will continue to use.

This patch is made to run into a Slot Type rod tip, it absolutely will not hold to any brush be it nylon or brass! Holds solvent okay but if you can't get it to pass into the barrel without gloves on.... gimme some cloth please.

Easily the best patches I ...

Easily the best patches I have used in over 45 years of shooting. I wrap them around a Dewey nylon brush and run them through a Lucas bore guide. Their unique texture allows them to carry a lot of fluid into a barrel, and a lot of fouling out. They don't fray, which means no more wasted time picking lint or thread out of brushes or mechanisms. One caution: these patches are thicker than the usual cotton flannel patch and will be tough to push through a badly fouled barrel using a jag - wrap one around a brush to carry solvent into the barrel for at least a preliminary cleaning before using a jag.
